Macka Diamond Comes Underfire for Leaked Photo for New Video

Writer : Caribbean E-Magazine on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 | 8:58 PM

Tuesday, January 28, 2014

Controversial Dj, Macka Diamond is now on the defense following a leaked picture of her upcoming video for her single, Wicked Heart. In the picture you can see the DJ hanging from a cross, mirroring the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Macka Diamond
Last week social media went into frenzy over the picture that was taken from the shoot of the video. Many felt that Macka committed blasphemy by doing the act and crossed the line of artistic expression.

In a radio interview Friday, on IRIE FM, Macka made it clear that this isn’t he the case, saying the picture and meaning behind it were taken out of context.

“To be frank, I was never looking at it that way. It’s since I’m seeing the comments (that) I really started to think about it.”
‘Chu, people a crucify mi..dem nah get mi down.’ I wasn’t even thinking about this Jesus ting or nail my hand...like I dying for nobody sins. It is not as deep as everybody is thinking.”

Macka said the scene was only done as a way to depict recent criticisms made against her way. Assumptions are now made that the song is a retaliation of her lyrical clash with Lady Saw at STING recently.

The official video for Wicked Heart will be released in the coming weeks.

Macka Diamond Shining Bright into the New Year

Writer : Caribbean E-Magazine on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 | 1:16 PM

Tuesday, December 11, 2012

Charmaine Munroe aka Macka Diamond, Dancehall/Reggae recording artiste of Jamaica, continues to strive above and beyond limits other Jamaican female Dancehall artistes are yet to surpass.  This is a trend that could be the foundation from which the female artistes in Dancehall can draw inspiration.  Ms. Money Oooo, Mackadocious has not only appeared in a movie but landed a lead role.  Not only has she published the first Dancehall novel 'Bun Him' but will be launching a second, 'Naughty and Nice,' another first among her peers both male and female in Dancehall.

The '40 n Fabulous' Diva and Dancehall veteran has become one to admire.
Her work ethics, persistence and determination place her, among few Dancehall artistes to have gone beyond just music recording and stage performances in Jamaica. Another such is the controversial Dancehall 'Teacha' Vybz Kartel, whose reality television series, the first of its kind on Jamaican television, spiralled after his unfortunate arrest and subsequent murder charges.  Dr. Garth 'Shaka Pow' McDonald, Obstetrician/Gynaecologist and fellow Dancehall artiste said, "Macka Diamond has created a foundation from which other female Dancehall artistes can build a more sustainable and thriving business."

Known as
Lady Mackerel throughout the 90s era, Macka Diamond held her own in a male dominated industry releasing several tracks that were popular among Dancehall fans and made her an household name.  Around 2003, she reinvented herself and re-emerged as Macka Diamond the 'Money Ooo' diva scoring hits including her first, 'Tek Con' a protest track to Vybz Kartel's chauvinistic, 'Tek Buddy' track then thereafter, Steam Fish, Bun Him ft. Blacker, Cow Foot, 40 n Fabulous and a catalogue of popular Dancehall tracks fans can identify her with.

Summer 2009,
Macka Diamond landed a lead role in the Caribbean inspired movie, Redemption of Paradise filmed in Antigua by Director Noel 'doc' Howell.  Macka played 'Millie' a citizen of Paradise who took the decision to form a community watch group which, among other things, encourages local businessmen to stop paying money for protection and deter the corrupt efforts of Paradise's drug kingpin.  She did well and trotted across the Caribbean with the cast to promote the movie; a stint that would later benefit her music career significantly.  In 2011, Macka Diamond emerged winner of the International Reggae and World Music Award (IRAWMA) Female DJ/Rapper of the year in Trinidad.  This is another bright moment for this persistent individual.

After writing Dancehall's first official novel entitled
'BUN HIM' in 2007, Macka Diamond has come back with the long awaited follow-up of what may very well be the most anticipated novel to date (in Jamaica's literary history) - NAUGHTY or NICE aka BUN HIM pt. 2 (Available Amazon)  A book launch will be held in Kingston, at Sangster's Books Store, December 12, 2012  between the hours of 7 - 10pm and mark, yet another milestone for the Dancehall veteran.  As Macka Diamond continues to spread her wings and create opportunities for herself, we recognize her as a role model, another Jamaican who aspires to rise above what is normal.  Shine bright Macka Diamond.

Macka Diamond to launch her book NAUGHTY or NICE aka BUN HIM pt. 2 on December 12

Writer : Caribbean E-Magazine on Thursday, December 6, 2012 | 12:42 PM

Thursday, December 6, 2012

Dancehall artiste Macka Diamond will be launching her second book NAUGHTY or NICE aka BUN HIM pt. 2, at the Sangster's Books Store - Mall Plaza, Kingston on December 12th from 7 – 10 pm.

Book Description

It all ended with an accident, but it didn't stop there...SURE DIDN'T - there was also DNA, and when the results came, the daddy who was suppose to be the daddy, literally got the shock of his life....The child he thought was his, wasn't, and that meant one thing and one thing only.... AND NOW - The Saga Continues: "Larry! ...let me, let me explain baby, let me..." Sandra was pleading, tears already running down her cheeks. Larry saw them, but he wasn't moved. He smirked, coldness and callousness covering him like skin. Desperation took over, she moved toward him, only to run into a distinct hand gesture that not only added insult to injury, but a gesture that also came with the stinging, "save your breath, okay...there is nothing to explain. You should be glad that I'm letting you live, what says take the clothes that my money bought ... And by the way, do us both a favour...please stay away from me; please...stay as far as humanly possible, for your good and mine..." Sandra swallowed hard. Princess was crying. She tried to hush her, but she only got louder. Larry heard her too, saw both their tears, but he wasn't moved, and in one swift motion was on his heels; too hurt to even look back. Sandra remembered that incident as though it was yesterday, but it wasn't... Years had passed, but the memory still lingered. She sighed as she reclined. A lot had changed since then, a whole lot. Physically she had gained a few pounds, but all in the right places, and she was at the top of her game and loving it. Life had taught her hard, but well; so much so that she even had a new M-O, because if she should tell it, Shabba was right, "If a man want it...mek him pay dung pon it..." It was that simple, pay to play or hit the highway... Love didn't live there anymore... ...NAUGHTY or NICE aka BUN HIM pt. 2 JAMAICA'S MOST ANTICIPATED NOVEL TO DATE!

Macka whose real name is Charmaine Munroe previously released BUN HIM!! in 2007 and Grown & Sexy (Macka Diamond) in 2011. The books including NAUGHTY or NICE aka BUN HIM pt. 2 were all done by publishing company Pageturner Publishing

Macka Diamond's, 'Deh Suh Nice'

Writer : Caribbean E-Magazine on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 | 10:06 AM

Wednesday, April 4, 2012

It was around this time last year 2011 that money Ooo Diva Macka Doh-shus Cow Foot track took off in the dancehall to later become a year long hit.  Now, the Dancehall hit maker who has proven time and time again that she has the goods, walk out with the xxx rated sex talk track "Deh Suh Nice" a counteraction to Potential Kid's hit song, 'A Yah Suh Nice.'

Sex talk lace Macka Diamond's, 'Deh Suh Nice' track,  out now on the Golden Rock Production Label.  The counteraction created quite a stir on its release in Potential Kid's camp, it was rumoured that the song was barred from playing in some 'Potential Kid' territories.  Well Macka who seem to get more competitive under pressure, decided to 'beat it beat it beat it' yup, with the support of team players Kevon Dixon and Iceman.

The result? "street creds tun up right now" said Ms. Money Ooo, "the song a mash up every whey.  Weddy, Weddy dun whey night and Nesbeth Bike Fest ova Big Buy Plaza in Portmore shell whey when Pink Panther drop it last Sunday night" she said.

Macka who 'want it in the bushes', is not wasting no time with the hype the song is getting, she has already shot a video directed by Robert Chin and Edited by Terminal 4 soon to be released.  She said "dem a run out now by the thousands and it woulda look like dem a do a whole heap a ting but when you look good everybody a follow Macka, at one point me see a video whey look like all dem change ina de treatment fi mek it different from my own, is the artiste. But me nah complain because me know me a leader plus dat good fi de business we need some fire now."

Though Macka Diamond leaves the island shortly for London where she is expected to be for a few days, the 'Steam Fish,' 'Money O,' 'Bun Him,' 'Think Bout Mi,' 'Cow Foot,' hit maker is comfortable with the buzz on 'Deh Suh Nice' and looks to once again dominate summer for a second time in a row.

Deh Suh Nice is xxx rated so we won't be featuring it here but the 18,000 plus viewers of several video slides of the song on youtube is loving it.
A deh suh nice, a me fi tell u...DWL!!

Is Macka Diamond Being Victimized By The Media?

Writer : Caribbean E-Magazine on Saturday, January 7, 2012 | 10:24 AM

Saturday, January 7, 2012

Despite continued effort to make good of her music career, female Dancehall artiste Macka Diamond believes that she is often harshly and unjustly criticized and unfortunately by members within the Jamaican industry.

Though 2011 has been strenuous on the industry and arguably for various reasons including a worldwide recession and the inability of local artistes and industry players to stimulate or re-energize the Reggae/Dancehall brand; Macka Diamond has worked hard throughout the past year at sustaining her own image and brand.  She was able to garner an islandwide approval from the fans after the release of an all summer long, runaway hit titled 'Cowfoot.' Thereafter, Macka released a second album, 'Don't Disturb Me' on iTunes and was named the International Reggae and World Music Award (IRAWMA) International Female Rapper/DJ of the Year  as well as listed as one of the 10 Most Fascinating People of the Caribbean on Caribbean Entertainment Magazine (CEM)  She also became the first female Dancehall artiste to be featured on WorldStar Hip-Hop dot com after the release of her 'Power Wine' video  and have done over 20 gigs internationally including the world premiere of movie, Redemption of Paradise to which she played lead role

Despite all this achievement in a time when many artiste have not been able re-vamp or make a significant impression on themselves, the artiste has not been nominated in any significant category of the Star People's Choice Award !  Although this is not encouraging for her she said, she refuse to take issue but what annoys her is that she was placed in the 'Worst Dressed Female' category of the Awards and she believes this is a direct attempt to further humiliate her!

"This demonstrates the disregard persons have for individual achievement in this industry.  If they don't like you, no matter how well you do, your work is not contemplated; and that is one of the self inflicted wounds this industry suffers and will continue to suffer if nothing is done to curb the actions of those who fail to put professionalism before personal vindictiveness" said a somber Macka Diamond. "I don't care if they believe I am the worst dressed artiste, that is not my grouse because in my opinion I believe women in Dancehall should be creative and represent Dancehall so my dressing is by choice and I make no apology for being creative, an important ingredient that is lacking locally.  However, while I like Hip-Hop and RnB music and the images the artistes of these genres project, I believe there must be a distinguishing difference between Jamaican music and any other.  It might not seem significant here in Jamaica but it certainly makes a statement on the international side."

Macka Diamond said she will continue to work her butt off and will only retire when her body tells her to do so.  As for the fans, she believes it must be frustrating to them (the biggest supporter of the music) to know that their own opinion counts little resulting in them hardly if ever, given a chance to choose what they like and often times have to 'suck up to' what is fed to them.

Macka ‘Duh-shus’ new video for her hot Dancehall track entitled ‘Wine,’ tun up! Yes indeed.  Always advocating for females in the Dancehall, Macka’s new video feature several of the top dancers in the industry. These include former Dancehall Queen Latifa who short circuited while doing her ‘Wine’ in the video.  The IRAWMA 2011 International Rapper/DJ continues to lead her female counterparts, proving why she owns the international title this year.  All summer long Macka’s Cow Foot song dominated the dance floor at all the parties and is still a hot pick in the Dancehall.

When the Money O000 Diva dropped the video for her hot single, ‘Wine’ three (3) days ago, little did she know that the views on youtube would have shot to over 3000.  This high resolution, all girl and fun music video produced by Terminal 4 Media has brought about a new twist to the song, exactly what a video is suppose to do and so the fans approve.  ‘Wine’ by Macka Diamond is a production of Young Veterans and is one of the 15 tracks on her recently iTunes released album, ‘Don’t Disturb Mi.’

"Challenges Can Be Rewarding" Says Macka Diamond

Writer : Caribbean E-Magazine on Thursday, September 1, 2011 | 2:58 PM

Thursday, September 1, 2011

Amidst pleas and reward offers, the perpretrators that stole Dancehall artiste Macka Diamond’s pocket book and all her her stuff are yet to come forward.  But despite the huge set back cause from loss of the documents, Macka Diamond relentlessly pushes forward.

“Well I could always get back my I.D. and stuff but you know how tedious the process gets especially for me because I still have to be recording in the studio, still out in the streets promoting my music and basically kept abreast with what happening around me because I’m an artiste”

Indeed its no easy feat getting as far as Macka has in the industry but it does comes with various challenges. The obvious lesson to be learned is knowing how best to deal with the challenges and keep going.

Introducing, ‘Trillo’ Upcoming Artiste/Entertainer

Writer : Caribbean E-Magazine on Friday, July 29, 2011 | 4:35 PM

Friday, July 29, 2011

Vanya Gopaul a.k.a TRILLO formerly TRILO-G was born in Kingston, Jamaica and attended Stella Maris Preparatory, got involved in athletics, excelled in track and field, went on to represent Kingston College in major championships including the Miami classics. He was also involved in theater and dance but surprisingly to family and friends, Trillo was passionate about music.  An ardent fan of Micheal Jackson when he was a child he entered a few singing and dancing competitions where he won first place at one of the events. He also performed for Stella Maris on Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC) before it became Television Jamaica (TVJ) along with fellow classmates.

TRILLO and family migrated to the United States when he was 13 years old. Though he was placed in an accelerated program called the International Baclarette(IB) with strict policies to maintain a high grade, he was still passionate about music. He would rhyme and beat bop with his friends attracting huge crowds at school but had to complete his studies at College because his mother was firm on education regardless of his interest in music. Trillo always believed he would have his way and never gave up on his dream; even when it seemed like it would never happened the very thought ultimately motivated him to hone his skills.

In 2005 his dream was realized as he was able to release two singles “Take A Ride” and “Who I Be.” It was the genesis of a music career that he waited almost forever he thought, “to take off.”   Five years now into his career,  he has full support of his Mother, Paulette GoPaul now the team is working on the release of a debut album soon to be released. He writes his own songs and has spent a lot of time promoting his music throughout Miami, Davie, Ginger Bay, Pembroke Pines and number of towns in Florida. Trillo’s unique style is a fusion of reggae, dancehall, hip hop and pop music.  His vocals are powerful and distinctive and he uses it to entice his audience wherever he performs.  Trillo recently recorded a single with popular Dancehall artiste Macka Diamond entitled, “Summertime.”  A video for the single was shot on locations in Miami, can now be seen on several local cable channels and main stream television entertainment programs.  He is also schedule to perform on ‘A St. Mary Mi Come From’ on August 5thand will be arriving in Jamaica as of Monday August 1st

Macka Diamond Sends Strong Message ‘All Dem A Talk’!!

No one can deny that Macka Diamond ‘Cowfoot’ song and its dance move created by popular Dancer Shelly Belly, rule the Dancehall.  The song and dance has become viral, yielding repetitive ‘forwards’ and ‘pull up’ in every dance/party these days.  However, in light of its popularity there is a small minority of persons who seem disappointed that the song has hit and have converged in an effort to try and derail what the people in the streets have approved.  So, the IRAWMA 2011 International Female DJ/Rapper of the Year Macka Diamond dropped another track entitled ‘All Dem A Talk’ on the Kool Like Dat riddim to settle those doubts.

The lyrics come across as a feisty backlash and reminder to those who seem to forget the successes she has had in the industry over the years.  Directly responding to reports circulating in the media regarding the originality of the Cowfoot Dance, Macka deejay on the track that, "twitter is a baby" and when asked about what she really thinks about his twittering in the media she said “every upcoming artist try to attach themselves to a name fi get out deh so its nothing new, da little artist deh a do him ting.  However a Shelly Belly created the Cowfoot Dance move in Maxfield so big up Maxfield people de ting tun up loud loud”

For Macka Diamond and her crew it matters not now who created this dance move because it has become a craze among fans that literally wait until the joint is played to ‘buss a move.’  The industry however seems to think otherwise as Macka Diamond has once again been voted Female DJ of the Year and Most Outspoken Female of the Year in the Music Industry Achievers Award, the ceremony is scheduled to commence on September 27, 2011.

Macka Diamond’s "Cow Foot Video" Is Still Number 1

Writer : Caribbean E-Magazine on Thursday, June 23, 2011 | 10:05 AM

Thursday, June 23, 2011

The 2011 IRAWMA recipient of the International Female Rapper/DJ, Macka Diamond’s runaway hit Cow Foot, has held steadfast to its number 1  position on FIWI Choice Top Ten Chart this week. The Cow Foot dance has become viral on the local dance circuits and is undoubtedly the red hot move for the summer.

The video which also entered Video Alley Top Ten two weeks ago has jumped two places up from #10 last week to #8 this week. On the music charts, the track is #9 on Stampede Street Chart while another Macka Diamond track entitled, ‘Too Much Bull” is #7.

Macka Diamond is into full campaign gear, appearing on CVM  at Sunrise this morning just a few hours after arriving into the country from a three weeks trip to the United States and Guyana where she made several appearances and shot a new video for a colab she did with Miami base new artiste Trillo.  Cow Foot has been bubbling on Toronto’s Radio Dubplate Hot Singles List, Blazing Bubblers Rising To The Top @#4 and that’s good because Macka will be heading off to Canada this week for two shows in Vancouver and Montreal.

Macka Diamond Tells Some Cow Foot Haters “I’m so laughing at you”!

Writer : Caribbean E-Magazine on Thursday, June 9, 2011 | 3:52 PM

Thursday, June 9, 2011

International Female Rapper/DJ Macka Diamond said she was reliably informed that persons in the local industry have been publicly undermining her Cow Foot track.  Macka who is currently in Florida said she is not bothered by the fact that some people don’t like the song, “some think it’s hot and some not but that’s how it is, everybody naa go like everything you put out” but making public comments in an attempt to derail it’s growing popularity, “naa go mek it go away so easy” she said.

Macka said when she realized her Cow Foot track, “tek off” she was pleasantly surprise and in a press release, admitted that “young audience like music adults think is nonsensical” which explains why her, “silly song” as she refer to the track, took off.  So now the artiste shot back at the hater saying “fi know sey di one song have dem a talk up de tings dem is a clear signal dat it a beat dem bad lmao!”

In the meantime, Cow Foot is singing its own tune, kicking up a storm in the Dancehall hall and making entries on charts.  Currently the track is a bubbler on Toronto Top Ten Reggae and Dancehall Chart while the video (which is getting a least 500 hits per day on youtube) has entered CVM Hitlist Charts. Macka Diamond is schedule to return to the island next week after performing in Chicago on June 11

Macka Diamond wins (IRAWMA) Best Female International Rapper/DJ for 2011

Writer : Caribbean E-Magazine on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 | 10:08 AM

Tuesday, May 31, 2011

Macka Diamond is the proud recipient of the International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) Best Female International Rapper/DJ for 2011.  The Dancehall artiste (who also wears the hat of that of Author and Actress) is overwhelmed and said “even though there were indicators that I could have won, I simply did not think about it and so it took me completely by surprise.” A pleasant surprise it must have been for Macka who also performed her popular Hoola Hoop and Cow Foot tracks to a very receptive audience at the awards.
The International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) celebrated its 30th year last weekend May 28th, 2011 at the National Academy of the Performing Arts in Port of Spain, Trinidad.  Considered to be the only awards show to recognize the contributions of Caribbean and World music for over 30 years, IRAWMA was founded by entrepreneur, publisher and TV personality Ephraim M. Marting.  The nominees included Trinidad’s 2011 Soca Monarch and Road Monarch champion Machel Montano, controversial and popular Dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel, Taurus Riley, Jah Cure, Gramps Morgan, Queen Ifrika, International Reggae musician duo Sly and Robbie, JW Blaze, Shakira, Daddy Yankee and many more.  Past nominees, winners and award recipients  for this prestigious event have included Sean Paul, Jamie Foxx, Mamedou Diabte, Wyclef Jean, India Irie, Enrique Iglesias, Alison Hinds, Awilo Longamba and Beenie Man just to name a few.

Previous IRAWMA have been held in U.S. cities New York, Miami and Atlanta as well as the city of Montego Bay in Jamaica and has been broadcasted on major TV networks such as MTV and B.E.T.

Known to be hard working and persistent, an award such as this could not have come at a better time in Macka’s career.  The DJ has successfully traversed other career paths within the entertainment industry that too few Jamaican artistes have gone.   She debut in a film titled, “Redemption of Paradise” taking on a lead role back in September 2009 and has also released two books to date, an autobiography entitled, “Grown and Sexy” and what is said to be the first official Dancehall novel titled, ‘Bun Him’ which is ironically the title of one of her popular songs with Dancehall artiste Blacker.

Last Friday Macka Diamond’s twitter was buzzing with excitement and she tweeted about the artistes in attendance at Cow Foot Fridays; her Blackberry (bb) messenger broadcasted messages sending shout outs to Sizzla Kolanji, Shawn Storm, Unicorn, Ghandi, Ricki General and Shelly Belly to name a few as well as resident selector Hottaball and the, “Cow Foot” girls.
