Bermuda Glee Audition to Be Held on Saturday, May 17

roika Bermuda will be hosting its 2014 Bermuda Glee auditions, a 7 day summer intensive running from June 28th - July 5, 2014 for Bermuda resident students aged 14 - 18 years.

Bermuda Glee was designed to provide Bermuda's young people with an opportunity to work with each other and teachers from secondary schools across Bermuda to create an original piece of musical theatre for presentation to the Bermuda community on Saturday, July 5, 2014.

Auditions for Bermuda Glee will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the Berkeley Institute. 

Students interested in participating in Bermuda Glee should fill out the registration form and give to their performing arts teacher or scan and email it to info@troikabda.com.  

Bermuda Glee is being sponsored by The Argo Foundation, The Bank of Bermuda Foundation, Orbis and Barritts.

Bermuda International Film Festival to Take Place From March 21-27

he 17th annual Bermuda International Film Festival will be taking place from March 21-27. The BIFF has remained steadfast in its mission statement: to advance the love of independent film in a community welcoming to filmmakers and filmgoers and to encourage and inspire young Bermudians to capture their very special narrative through the lens of a camera.

 

Over 25 feature-length and short films will be screened at Liberty Theatre in Hamilton during the festival week. The BIFF 2014 programme is themed “Global Visions” with the widest film selection geographically in the history of the event.

Further information about each film and more detailed synopses are available in the BIFF 2014 online guide on www.biff.bm, which launches today. Tickets will go on sale on the website when the BIFF 2014 Box Office opens next Monday, March 3. BIFF Patrons and Sponsors will be contacted directly and offered priority access to purchase tickets in recognition of their valued support.

Bermudian Singer Twanée Butterfield Releases Video for Her Song “Doing Things”

Bermudian singer Twanée Butterfield  has released a music video for her song “Doing Things”, which was produced by Ky Miller from Mudd Monkey Inc. and written by Twanée and Talon Haynes.

Twanée (pronounced Twa-Nay) has performed alongside or opened for numerous top artists including Snoop Lion, Jennifer Hudson, Freddie McGregor,  Keyshia Cole, Alicia Keys, Fantasia Barrino and many more…

Twanée has been making wave since 2010, she has performed the ‘Star Spangled Banner’ at Fenway Park in Boston for a Boston Red Sox game.  She collaborated on a song with 50 Cent called ‘Shooting Guns’ featuring Kidd Kidd which was released on 50 Cent’s mixtape ‘The Big 10’. She also received two movie placements in 50 Cent’s film ‘All Things Fall Apart’.                      

In addition, she collaborated with fellow Bermudian recording artist Collie Buddz, on a song called "Bermuda Is So Much More", which is currently broadcasted world-wide on a Bermuda Tourism television commercial.

West Pembroke School Pride Wins Bermuda’s Youth Got Talent Competition

In March the second season of Bermuda’sYouth Got Talent got underway with over 170 contestants vying the title. After weeks of stellar performances, West Pembroke School Pride emerged the winner of this year’s competition, taking home $5,000 and an iPad 2.

Round two of the audition process was narrowed down to twenty-three (23) acts, where each act had to repeat their performances in front of a live audience .This was where  contestant had the opportunity “wow” the judges and the public for their votes

The top 20 acts were then unveiled and viewers were asked to phone in, text or go online to place their vote for their favourite performer or performers. They also got chance to perform during Bermuda’s dayParade on May 24^th.

Judges were entertainers: Steve Easton, Powergirl and Nadanja Bailey .

The winners are:

Grand Prize winner -$5000 and an iPad2 (care of iClick) - WPS Pride

Judge’s Choice – Angelis Hunt; 3 hours of studio time at Just Platinum, $100 Brown & Co, 4 complimentary tickets to the movies at Speciality Cinema

1st Runner up [people’s choice] – Quinn Outerbridge; $150 gift certificate from A.S Cooper, 2 complimentary tickets to Speciality Cinema

Favourite single act over 13 – Cameron Moulder; $100 gift certificate from Music Box

Favourite single act under 13 – Shori Lindsay-Trott; $100 gift certificate from Daisy & Mac

Favourite group under 13 – The Simons Brothers; $100 Brown & Co, 4 complimentary tickets to Speciality Cinema

Favourite dancer over 13 – Precious Cooper; $100 Electronic City

Favourite dancer under 13 – Micah Corea

Best performance with an instrument – Connie Campbell; $100 gift certificate from Music Box

Highly commended [under 13] – Ameina Lewis; $100 gift certificate from Daisy & Mac

Bermudian rapper “Lil Quan” Made his debut on BET’s 106 & Park

Bermudian rapper Jeremiah Steede aka “Lil Quan” made his debut on BET’s 106 & Park show last night.

The 16-year-old performed “Fly High” along side fellow Bermudian producer Cahlii Smith of Dem Biez after winning the ‘Can You Rip It?’

 

 

"Can You Rip It?’ ‘Voting’ segment by The 106 & Park, where viewers could vote on who was the best rapper. Lil Quan defeated his US competitors to claim victory.

Lil Quan is a multi-talented student at CedarBridge Academy in Bermuda, who also excels in track and field, and has represented Bermuda internationally at the Carifta Games.

 

Speaking after the show, Lil Quan and Dem Biez thanked everyone for the support. “Support the youth,” they said. “We are doing big things. When we get back, we are not going to stop.

Who will be crown Miss Bermuda 2013? - Meet the contestants

The Miss Bermuda 2013 Pageant will take place on Sunday June 23rd, at the Fairmont Southampton, where seven young ladies will compete for the crown.

Reigning queen Rochelle Minors will crown her successor who will represents Bermuda at the Miss World Pageant at the Sentul International Convention Center in Indonesia on September 28th.

Zaire Bean wins Miss Teen Bermuda Islands 2012 Pageant

At the Fairmont Southampton last night (Aug 19), ten young ladies vied for the Miss Teen Bermuda 2012 crown and 17-year-old Zaire Bean walked with the title.

Kwame Harris won first runners up and the sectional award for Miss Sweet Charity while Alicia Kirby walked away with third place.

Zaire a Berkeley Institute student also won the Miss Teen Super Model, and was the first runner up for the Sweet Charity award. Savannah Ramatar won the Miss Photogenic award, Tiahana Booth won the Miss Talent, Stevantae McCallan won the Miss Personal Style and the Rose Hart capped the Miss Congeniality award.

As the winner of the pageant, Zaire will receive a trip to St Kitts to participate in the Miss Talented Teen Pageant, an official wardrobe by Clara Bows boutique, one-year membership at Olympic Club, a $500 cash prize and more.

The contestants entertained the audience with a dance to the music of Whitney Houston, along with multiple power point presentations showing earlier rounds of the competition.
