Entertainer Sizzla Fined for Using Indecent Language

esterday (Tues, Feb 18) dancehall artiste Sizzla Kalonji  (real name Miguel Orlando Collins) was fined for $1000 by Resident Magistrate Jannef Anderson.

Sizzla appeared in court to answer charges for using indecent language, while performing at a nightclub in South Haven St Thomas earlier in the year. He has pleaded guilty to the charges.

Reports are that police appeared at the nightclub and turned the audio system off, as it was being played after the hours specified in the promoter’s permit. After the police left Sizzla turned the music, which prompted the police to return to the scene and seized the equipment. The artiste reportedly got verbally abusive towards the police.

Sizzla was served a summons to appear in court when he went to collect the confiscated sound equipment from the police station

Sizzla firing lyrical shots at hip hop artise Snoop Dogg

Dancehall artiste Sizzla is firing lyrical shots at hip hop artise Snoop Dogg in his latest song 'Burn Out Smithsonians'.  


In Burn Out Smithsonians, Sizzla accuses Snoop Dogg who was recently in Jamaica to record , of taking advantage of the  Rastafarian community for financial gain.


 "All you do is go around and record the sacred services in the holy temple of His Majesty and try to sell it. Nothing is right bwoy nothing is cool who di ... Snoop Dogg a try fool, tell him sey a Emperor Haile Selassie I rule, him cyah even get Selassie I stool," he sang.

"You don't have no conscience yu wicked people, yu come fi sell out Rasta people waah come record and video tape den run wey wid the copyright, and think yu escape dem, everybody want a piece a mi culture dem a raid it like vulture," Were Sizzla's lyrics.

The song labeled by YouTube users as a Snoop Dogg diss record, however, Sizzla's publicist Olimatta Taal expressed that the reggae artiste did not have personal grouse against the rapper.


Taal said that recording Rastafarian ceremonies without permission was disrespectful to the Rastafarian community.Based on the work that I have done with Sizzla, the Rastafarian community and Africa, I don't think that the Rastafarian community has a problem with certain ceremonies being videotaped. The issue is the process in which people use the tapings. If you go into the Rasta communities or to their ceremonies and begin to tape without permission, that is not allowed. It shows disrespect towards the people and the culture. There is also an issue of intellectual property and what the footage is being used for.

She explained.  "I don't think that Sizzla nor any member of the Rasta community have an issue with Snoop Dogg not being Rasta. If anything the community embraces individuals who want to 'overstand' the Rasta community, its principles, values, and way of life,"

"The leadership within the Rastafarian community is against the exploitation of the culture for economic benefit. It is so unfortunate that people make money off Rasta but the community nor its institutions benefit, this is where the problem lies. Anybody trying to commercialise aspects of Rasta culture should go through the correct channels to ensure that the Rastafarian community benefits from the economic gains and profits," Taal said.

The publicist also disclosed that Sizzla's song was merely speaking on behalf of the voiceless.

"Sizza is a voice for the voiceless. He addresses many issues through his music, so take it for what it is, face value. But let me be very clear, it is wrong to go into anyone's community to film a documentary that will be distributed for economic gain without the community receiving its fair portion from the profits," she continued.

"The roots film based on Kunta Kinteh from The Gambia made millions of dollars. However, if you go to the village of Juffureh and visit the Kinteh family or the museum, it does not reflect the millions of dollars that were made off this storybased in The Gambia. So I say to Sizzla and the Rastafarian community, keep fighting and speaking for truth and justice. Don't let anyone rape and exploit the culture. They must all go through the proper channels, always," Taal concluded.

Sizzla Kalonji releases new album "Don’t Mislead the Youths"

Sizzla Kalonji recently unveiled his latest album, Don’t Mislead the Youths, which was released on the United States based Reggae label, Locksmith

The six track is Sizzla’s 68th album and features singles such as Hotta Fire on the Saudi Arabia Riddim as well as Learn to Read and the EP’s title track, Don’t Mislead the Youths.

Don’t Mislead the Youths featuring a mixture of inspiring Reggae melodies as well as fiery Dancehall anthems, and is currently available in both physical and digital formats.

All songs were written and performed by Sizzla Kalonji for Zabogaubhi Music, and all tracks were produced and recorded by Lyon House Muzik in Kingston, Jamaica.

The EP was mixed and mastered by Dave Downie and BUG for Unlock My Mind Music, at Hilltop Studio in Brooklyn, New York.

Sizzla Concert in Sweden Cancelled after Gay community protest

Reggae artiste Sizzla, who was slated to perform in Stockholm, Sweden on March 28,was cancelled after lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender activists and supporters condemned Sizzla’s anti-gay lyrics, which strongly opposing homosexual lifestyles.

Event organizers have acknowledged the public outcry and accepted the fact that the Sizzla’s messages are in fact in breach of their code of conduct. The organizers have since cancelled the show, which was dubbed “The Reggae Compassionate Act

This is the second time the concert was cancelled, first from the accident that occurred last August.

Sizzla had similar encounter when gay rights groups in Canada and England protested against Sizzla’s music, and was barred from the United Kingdom after being investigated by Scotland Yard for allegedly inciting murder against homosexuals.

In 2007, he was also banned from performing in Montreal and Toronto after protest were made by members of the Canadian Stop Murder Music coalition.

Sizzla is currently embarking on an European and tour and has already played in 18 venues, despite out cry from the members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community (LGBT)

Sizzla sets to perform at Zimbabwe bash

Harare — REGGAE icon Sizzla Kalonji arrived in Zimbabwe yesterday to a rapturous welcome by his multitude of fans.


In our entertainment section we had said he was arriving this morning.

Sizzla will perform at the 21st February Movement gala at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair grounds in Bulawayo tonight to celebrate President Mugabe's birthday.

Reggae fans thronged the Harare International Airport to welcome the renowned Jamaican reggae star who is on his maiden visit to Zimbabwe.

Sizzla said he was honoured to be in Zimbabwe to grace birthday celebrations of a great revolutionary leader and Pan-Africanist who is fighting to uplift the livelihoods marginalised Africans -- President Mugabe.
"I'm on a back to Africa mission by myself and it is an honour to be in Zimbabwe for myself (and), the government of Jamaica and I couldn't refuse such an honour of being invited to perform at the President's birthday," he said.

Welcoming the Jamaican, Media, Information and Publicity Minister Webster Shamu said Sizzla, who already has a track called Zimbabwe, was walking the same road that the late Bob Marley walked in 1980.
The legendary Marley performed at Zimbabwe's Independence Day on April 18, 1980.
"You are coming to perform for a man who stands for all the down-trodden people around the world. A man who symbolises the spirit of Pan-Africanism and like Bob Marley who made a record for our country, you have replayed his song," Minister Shamu said.

Born Miguel Collins, Sizzla's trip was made possible by the collaborative efforts of Shumba Instrumentation frontman Nhamo Chitimbe, the Ministry of Media, Information and Publicity and Zimbabwe Tourism Authority.

Chitimbe said his company was on a mission to bring many reggae artists to Zimbabwe.


"Sizzla had to forego lucrative shows in Europe just to be with us.

"On behalf of Shumba Instrumentation, I thank all the people who came to welcome our brethren and this is just the start. We won't be stopping in our efforts to bring the best of Jamaica's artistes," said Mr Chitimbe.

Sizzla will perform at the gala with a number of local artistes including Josphat Somanje, Zexie Manatsa, Mai naBaba Charamba, Tanga Wekwa Sando, Cde Chinx, Iyasa among others.

Regional artistes who will grace the occasion include the Soul Brothers and Mzwake Mbuli (SA) and DRC groups Real Sounds and Beaux Gosses.

DJ Sizzla arrested on gun charges

Caribbean Entertainment Magazine(CEM) just received news that popular deejay Sizzla has been arrested. On Wednesday, the DJ was picked up by August Town Police after they received news that men were firing guns in the August Town area.

RJR news reports that the Sizzla  hands have been swabbed and samples sent to the government laboratory to determine whether he had fired a weapon, this according to a senior officer at the Half-Way-Tree Police Station.


A close friend of the DJ also confirmed the arrest ": "yes, is true, dem arrest Dada but mi hear say ah fi foolishness star"
