From around nine
(9) years old, his grandmother used to send him to prayer meetings on a Friday
evening but instead of going to church, he sneaked off to a nearby bar to play
with a sound system there. Coupled with that experience and his exposure to
music through his grandmother, who had numerous records which she played regularly,
Chris
attended Pembrook Hall Primary School where he
was successful in the Common Entrance Examination and obtained a place at the Meadowbrook High School.
During those
years Chris
started taking
selecting seriously and upon completing high school, he started to juggle with
a sound system. Each person that played on the Third Element Sound was given names to choose from such as Warlord,
Don, Dymond etc and he chose “Dymond,” which he thought suited him well,
hence the name “Chris
Dymond”.
Chris
paused selecting for a
while and then moved on to his next passion: Food Preparation. He
pursued level 1 and 2 in Culinary Arts
at the Runaway Bay HEART Academy and
was successfully certified. However, the urge was still there to pursue music;
therefore he took upon himself to start hanging around a sound system and was
given the opportunity to juggle and be a part of this sound system which was
known as Impulse. Every Friday night Chris played at the Escape Night Club in New Kingston. Code Red, which is another sound system, visited
the club regularly and heard of Chris’s juggling skills and saw that he was very talented
and were very impressed. On one occasion, Code Red and Impulse, the sound Chris was a part of at the time, went to a
session or a “dance,” as popularly known in Jamaica, in the Mandeville area.
Both sounds played and surprisingly “Impulse” was
well received by the patrons at the party. The Code Red team
was very appalled and Chris received a formal and official invitation to play
for their sound, which he has been a part of since December 2006.
In October 2012
he celebrated five (5) years in the music business professionally. Presently,
he is known as the “the ladies favourite DJ”
because he is different from the others who tend to acknowledge the male
counterparts in dancehall rather than the females.
Last, but by no
means least, Chris
grew up without a
father figure, which is common with most of our young boys in society these
days. His main aim is to always be successful so that he will be able to
set a strong foundation for his son. It is his duty and he will hold firm in
making his life easy by always providing for him and making sure his mother
feels comfortable when she reaches of age so that he can feel appreciative of
all that she has done for him.
