Miss Jamaica World 2014 Is Laurie-Ann Chin

n Saturday (July12th), 22 year old Laurie-Ann Chin was crowned Miss Jamaica World 2014 at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St James.

Laurie-Ann who will be representing her country at the Miss World pageant in London on December 14, emerged the winner from a field of 19 beauties.  She also took the “Best Figure” award and walked away with over $15 million (JAM) in cash and prizes.

First runner-up was Shellianne Young, while second runner-up went to Kimberly Webb was also awarded “Most Aware’ and “Best Smile”.

The other sectional prizes went to: Brittany Pink for “Best Legs”; Most Sociable, Kim Moya Dawkins; Beauty in Business, Shanta Spencer: Most Congenial, Kadian Collins; The Gleaner's People's Choice Award winner was Shanna Kay Ellis.
Entertainment for the evening included performances from In-Motion Dance Company, and singers Benji Myers and Faraji.

The evening's emcees were Kerie-Ann 'Kiki' Lewis Thomas and Michael Anthony Cuffe.

Miss Jamaica World Gina Hargitay is Miss World Caribbean 2013 Continental Queen

Miss Jamaica World Gina Hargitay

The 2013 Miss World pageant was held at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Centre, where Miss Jamaica World Gina Hargitay was crowned Miss World Caribbean.

 

Gina made the semifinals but failed to make the top six.

Miss Philippines, Megan Young won the won the overall the Miss World Title, while Miss France Marine Lorpheline and Miss Ghana Carranza Naa Okailey Shooter were  first and second runners up respectively.

 

The 23-year-old US native who moved to Philippines at age 10 took the crown from Wenxia Yu of China, the 2012 winner.

Rounding of the top six were: Miss Gibraltar Maroua Kharbouch, Miss Spain Elena Ibarbian Jimenez, and Miss Brazil Sancler Frantz Konzen.

Miss Jamaica - Gina Hargitay a Beach Fashion Finalists at Miss World

Miss Jamaica - Gina Hargitay is among the 11 Finalists of the Beach Fashion Challenge. She is the only Caribbean finalist to make it in this category.

A photoshoot was done yesterday at a secluded beach on the shores of Bali as part of the Beach Fashion Final.

The winner will be announced at the Miss World Final on the 28th of September.

Gina Hargitay Wins Miss Jamaica World 2013

Montego Bay Jamaica came alive on Sunday night, when a new Queen was crowned as Miss Jamaica World 2013. 18 year old Gina Hargitay capped the coveted title from a field of 25 beauties at the Montego Bay Convention.

Gina will represent Jamaica at Miss World 2013 on September 28 at the Sentul International Convention Center in Bali, Indonesia. She was also awarded three sectional prizes — Most Aware, Most Sociable, and Best Smile.

As the winner she walked away with a brand new Suzuki Kizashi luxury sports car valued at J$4.55M Her prize package will also include incentives such as a Miss World wardrobe; J$500,000 prize package courtesy of Nirvana Magazine; a training package from Fusion Consulting Limited, on screen film training from Frame by Frame and access to a full university scholarship courtesy of The University College of the Caribbean, University of London or Kursk State Medical University.

The first runner-up went to the crowd's favourite Jenaae Jackson who also won 'Best Figure' and 'Best Skin Tone'. Second runner-up went Amanda McCreath who awarded "Beauty in Business" prize.


Other sectional prizes winners were Christine Davis, who won 'Best Legs', Stephanie Harrison, 'Most Congenial' and Latoya Johnson 'Most Sociable'.

Rounding off the top 7 were: completed by Jessica Campbell, Shanice Rerrie, Sheree Tomlinson, and Vanessa Metzger.

Miss Jamaica World 2013: Meet The 25 Contestants Competing In The Beauty Pageant

The 2013 Miss Jamaica World Pageant will be held on July 21 when bikini- and evening gown-clad contestants will show if they have what it takes to earn the crown.  Twenty five (25) women will compete at the Montego Bay Convention Centre.

This year there will be five fast track competitions, MJW Beauty with a Purpose, MJW Beach Beauty, MJW Talent, MJW Sports and MJW Model. The 5 winners will automatically be included among the Top Ten Finalists at the Grand Coronation Show on Sunday, July 21.

The 25 Contestants will be judged by beauty of face, figure, deportment, charm, poise, personality, general conversation, intelligence as well as conduct during the period of the contest.

The winner of the 2013 pageant will drive home a brand new Suzuki Kizashi valued at J$4.55M as well as a prize package valued at JA$500,000. Also the winner will receive a full educational scholarship with a total value of J$5M. Degrees will be offered through University College of the Caribbean, University of London and Kursk State Medical University.

The Miss World Competition will take place on September 28, at the Sentul International Convention Center in Bali, Indonesia.

Miss Jamaica World (MJW) Beauty Pageant Elimination Show Set for June 15

With just a few days remaining before the Suzuki Miss Jamaica World (MJW) Beauty Pageant contestant entry cut off date, MJW organisers are upbeat about the calibre of preliminary contestants. Entries for the 37th staging close on Wednesday, June 12 ahead of the elimination show on Saturday, June 15.

Laura Butler, Franchise Holder states "We are pleased with the applications received to date. Our country should be proud to know that our nation still possesses not just beautiful young ladies, but intelligent well spoken and talented individuals who are passionate about giving back to their communities and making a meaningful contribution to their country."

The global competition which further enforces the pageant's 'Beauty with a Purpose' tagline will take place on September 28, at the Sentul International Convention Center in Bali, Indonesia. Local Miss World hopefuls are encouraged to be prepared mentally, physically and emotionally and be self-motivated, polite and graceful. Above all, contestants should be knowledgeable and able to speak confidently.

The winner of the 2013 pageant will drive home a brand new Suzuki Kizashi valued at J$4.55M as well as a cash prize over JA$500,000 courtesy of Nirvana Magazine. Among the other incentives for this year's 20 finalists are an intense training package from Fusion Consulting Limited valued at JA$2M as well as full educational scholarships with a total value of J$5M. Degrees will be offered through University College of the Caribbean, University of London and Kursk State Medical University.

Nicole Baxter-Murray, Franchise Holder of the Middlesex County Pageant since 2001 shares "It's not just about beauty or physical attributes. Our Miss World hopefuls should be of good character and definitely convey confidence. Baxter-Murray won the 1993 Middlesex regional finals and placed second overall behind the current Minister of Youth & Culture, the Honourable Lisa Hanna, who went on to win the global competition in that year.

Baxter-Murray also explains that her experience in the 1993 pageant has helped her in her current profession as Insurance & Financial Advisor. "For me personally, when I entered Miss Jamaica, nobody could have told me that I could walk in a bikini and stand in front of a microphone. But with rehearsal and the support that the pageant offers in terms of grooming, speech and deportment - everyone has a fair chance. In my current job, I do a lot of presentations and my training has really assisted me."

The official sashing of the ladies of the Middlesex and Cornwall County Pageants took place on May 22 in Mandeville and Montego Bay respectively. Much deliberation is taking place among the 17 to 25 age faction which is the group eligible to participate.

The winners of the regional finals on June 8 and 13 will earn an automatic spot in the finals of the National Grand Coronation Show on July 21 set to take place at the Montego Bay Convention Centre.

MISS JAMAICA, Deanna Robins Crowned Miss Continental Queen of Caribbean, at Miss World 2012

On Saturday night the final Ceremony of the 2012, Miss World Pageant was held in the Ordos Stadium Arena. The Crown of Miss World 2012 went to Wenxia YU from The Peoples Republic of China. The First Runner Up is Miss Wales, Sophie Elizabeth Moulds. The Second Runner Up is Miss Australia, Jessica Michelle Kahawaty.


Miss Jamaica Deanna Robins was crowned Miss Continental Queen of Caribbean.  During the Fast Track Events Deanna was the only contestant in the competition to have qualified for five of six events.

Two Caribbean contestants made it to the top 15 Miss Mexico and Miss Jamaica from record-breaking year of 116 contestants from across the globe. The others to make the top 15 were Miss Australia, Miss Brazil, Miss China PR, Miss England, Miss India, Miss Indonesia, Miss Kenya, Miss Netherlands, and Miss Philippines, Miss South Sudan, Miss Spain, Miss United States and Miss Wales.

In the top seven were Miss China, Miss Wales, Miss Australia, Miss South Sudan, Miss Brazil, Miss Jamaica and Miss India

Deanna Robins wins Miss Jamaica World 2012

On Saturday at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston, Twenty old year Deanna Robins walked away with the title of Miss Jamaica World 2012.



The 5'10" tall beauty who is a past student of St. Andrew High School and a recent graduate of the University of the West Indies where she earned a double major degree in Biology with a focus in Environmental Biology.  She is currently a volunteer at the YMCA where she teaches reading to the underprivileged boys.

During preliminary competition some of the girls were automatically sent to the top 10 based on the fast-track competition, these include:

Miss Talent  - Adianna Bryan

Miss Sports -  Trishauna Clarke

Beauty With A Purpose - Rashida Beckford

Top Model -  Adianna Bryan

The other top 10 finalists were   Kelly-Ann Diedrick, Chevell Powell, Claudiann Berry, Lauren McClure, Lauren MacKay, Shona Bewley and Deanna Robins



Making the top 5 were fourth place winner Lauren MacKay, third runners up, Shona Bewley, second runner up Rashida Beckford and First' runners went to Trishauna Clarke.

Deanna Robins, who also won the Best Smile and best the essay competition awards, will Jamaica in Miss World 2012 in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, and People’s Republic of China on August 18.

The contest was aired live on TVJ and online which was a good thing since viewers got a chance to watch the event. Over all the production was of a low quality, as it lacks international flare. The event had no elements of Jamaica 50, which is a milestone

R&B singer I-Candy from Brick and Lace gave a performance which was not worthy for air play and wrong for such a prestige event. This was a national televised event where kids were watching

We hope organizer of the Miss Jamaica World Competition will starts to invest more into the pageant not only financially but time, to bring back the glamour and essence of what the event should be.

We want to congratulate Deanna Robins and wish her all the best in the upcoming Miss World.
