IRAWMA Awards was a night of Glitz and Glamor with Stellar Performances

The 32nd IRAWMA International Reggae and World Music Awards was held at the Center for the Arts Coral Springs, Florida this past Saturday (May 4), which was hosted by Etana and Audley Rollen. Freddie McGregor was originally slated to host along side Etana but last minutes changes were made because he had the flu.

The star studded red carpet event was a night of Glitz, Glamor and Grandeur, where celebrities, nominees and Platinum VIP ticket holders enjoyed a night to remember, with over a thousand people in attendance.

Notable winners for the night were Mr Vegas, who walked away with two IRAWMAs, Best Song, Sweet Jamaica and Best Music Video. Tarrus Riley also won two IRAWMAs for Best Male Vocalist and Most Cultural/Educational Entertainer. Romain Virgo received a trophy for Most Promising Entertainer, while veteran Entertainer Freddie McGregor was named Most Consistent Entertainer.

Performances included Dean Frasier who started the evening with a fiery instrumental selection, led by Frasier on saxophone. Mr. Vegas, Romain Virgo, Calypso Rose, who had the audience on their feet, Half Pint, Richie Stephens and Macka Diamond. African Soukous Star, Top One Frisson received an enthusiastic applause after his performance, was not to be outdone by his counterpart Wyre from Kenya who also received a rousing reception. Poet Mutabaruka, and Haitian Gospel group Jonathan Laurince and True Worshipper were engaging. Florida's rising stars Sons of Mystro, as well as Gospel's popular performer, Second Chance's performance were well-received by the audience as well as Etana's performance as both host and songstress. There was a video presentation and special tribute to Jacob Miller from Inner Circle, whose birthday was actually on May 4th.

The 2013 Lifetime/Hall of Fame awards were presented to Derrick "Ducky" Simpson of Black Uhuru, Denver "JAMUSA" Silvera, Lloyd "Joe Fraser" Campbell and Inner Circle. Martin's International-IRAWMA Award of Honor were presented to producer Donovan Germain, event marketing specialist C. "Eddy" Edwards, and radio host Bevan "Duke of Earle" Earle.

Freddie McGregor and Etana to host the International Reggae and World Music Awards

Freddie McGregor, and reggae princess Etana will be the host of this year’s 32^nd International Reggae and WorldMusic Awards (IRAWMA).

The star-studded event is scheduled for Saturday, May 4th, at the prestigious Coral Springs Center for the Arts, in Coral Springs, Florida.

The celebrity red carpet arrival and receptions begins at 6:00 pm and the Awards showcase at 8:00 pm. This year’s top nominee, Mr.Vegas and more than fifteen other leading reggae and world music entertainers will perform live on the Awards showcase. The musical director for IRAWMA is Saxophonist Dean Fraser, who will lead the Dean Fraser All Star Band in providing musical backing for performers.

Top nominees for this 32nd IRAWMA are Mr. Vegas with six, Damian Marley five, Sean Paul, Konshens, Romain Virgo and Third World with four. As host, Freddie McGregor will show a different side of his talents. Having captured more than 20 IRAWMA trophies since 1984 in various categories. McGregor has been busy promoting his recent album, “The Captain”, which has been receiving positive reviews in Jamaica and overseas.

Etana, who is rapidly building a strong fan base with her rootsy and realistic recordings will co-host the awards ceremonies and will bring her humorous and lighter personality to the fore. Nominated for Best Female Vocalist in this year’s crop, Etana also has a few IRAWMA golden trophies on her showcase. She too has been busy promoting her latest album for VP Records entitled “Better Tomorrow.

Mr. Vegas and Damian Marley lead the pack with most IRAWMA nominations

The nominees for the 32nd Annual International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) were officially released on WAVS 1170 AM- JAMUSA show and on IRIE FM Jamaica on Wednesday (February 27).

Leading the list of nominees are Mr. Vegas with six, Damian Marley five, Sean Paul, Konshens, Romain Virgo and Third World with four nominations each. Jimmy Cliff, Marcia Griffiths, Tarrus Riley and Busy Signal round out the top contenders sharing three nominations each. The complete list of nominees is available online at www.irawma.com

Some 200 Reggae and World Music industry individuals, groups and others received nods, and the winners will be presented at the star-studded staging of the 32nd annual IRAWMA awards ceremony scheduled for Saturday, May 4th, 2013, at the prestigious Coral Springs Center for the Arts, 2855 Coral Springs Drive, in Coral Springs/Fort Lauderdale, Florida,

In the Bob Marley Entertainer of the Year category, the contenders are Jimmy Cliff, Damian Marley, Third World, Roman Virgo, Sean Paul, Tarrus Riley and Stephen Marley.

Snoop Dogg-Lion whose anticipated CD and film release "Reincarnated" - which has been creating a big buzz in the reggae community since last summer - was nominated in 3 categories, namely: Best Crossover Song "La-La-La", Best Music Video "La'La'La" and Best Hip Hop/R&B Entertainer.

Vying for the Best Calypso/Soca Entertainer are Allison Hinds, Machel Montana, Kes The Band, Iwer George, Skinny Fabulous, The Yankee Boy and Kerwin Dubois. Nominees for Best African Entertainer are Fally Ipupa - Congo, D'banji - Nigeria, P Square - Nigeria, Nkulee Dube - South Africa, Liquideep - South Africa, Daddy Muss - Sierra Leone and Sarkodie - Ghana.

In the Best Soukous Entertainer the nominees are Papa Wemba, Danny Engobo, Werrason, Top-One Frisson, Samba Mapangala and J-Blue El Buddha. Best Compas/Racine Entertainer will be selected from T-Vice, DJakout #1, Tropicana D'Haiti, L'Oschestre, Septentrional, Barikad Crew and Roosevelt "BIC" Saillant.

The 2013 Lifetime/Hall of Famers are Derrick "Ducky" Simpson - Black Uhuru, Denver "JAMUSA" Silvera, Edward Seaga, Lloyd "Joe Fraser" Campbell and Inner Circle.

Martin's International-IRAWMA Award of Honor will be presented to producer Donovan Germain, event marketing specialist Carson "Eddy" Edwards, controversial radio host Bevan "Duke of Earle" Earle and promoter Arthur Lugisse.

South Florida-based Willie Lindo, Winsome Charlton and Vonnie McGowan will also be recognized for their more than 40 years of contribution to the music industry. Six special categories were added for the best in the South Florida music industry for 2012, which also include those who have made extra-ordinary contributions to the Florida entertainment industry.

The public will now have a final say in selecting the winners by submitting their votes online or through the mail. All mail-in ballots should be postdated no later than April 10, 2013, which is the official deadline for voting. Mail-in ballots deadline from outside the United States is April 2nd, 2013. Voters should take into consideration the social relevance of materials, originality, sales, local/national/international performances, quality of performances, and stage appearances.

International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA), heads to Florida

The annual International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA), by Martin's International, will be returning Fort Lauderdale Florida for its 32nd Anniversary.

The star studded event will be hosted at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts, 2855 Coral Springs Drive, in Coral Springs, Florida, on Saturday, May 4th, 2013. This will be the fifth time in 26years the event was hosted in Florida

The IRAWMA which has annual worldwide view of  more than twenty millions fans via
More than 20 million fans television and internet/social network, has  been hosted in various cities such as : Atlanta, New Orleans, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and New York.

Every ten years IRAWMA goes to the Caribbean. After fifteen years on the road, it returned to its birthplace, Chicago, in July, 2012 for the 31st celebration which was combined for the first time ever with its sister event, the International Festival of Life (IFOL).

In a few weeks nomination ballots will be released world-wide for reggae and world music experts to contribute in the selection of the 2012 nominees for the most coveted 32nd IRAWMA Awards.

International Reggae and World Music Awards - IRAWMA's to be held on July 5th, 2012.

The 31th Annual International Reggae And World Music Awards (IRAWMA), will be held this year, from July 4 - 8, 2012 at Washington Park Chicago. This years event will be in conjunction with the 20th Festival of Life and in Honor Jamaica's 50th year of Independence.

The nominees were announced on March 19th, and leading with 6 nominations is South African  female artiste Nkulee Dube, who became the first ever Non-Caribbean Artiste to have received so many nominations.

Tarrus Riley and Mavado each received 4 nominations , while The Marley brothers, Damian Stephen  and Ziggy along with Queen Ifrika, Third World, Fab 5 and Machel Montano all were nominees in 3 categories.
