The 33rd edition of the Caribbean Festival "Fire Fiesta" to be held in Cuba in July

The official announcement of the 33rd edition of the Caribbean Festival was made on Monday in this city in the presence of Culture Minister Rafael Bernal and renowned intellectuals of the island.


The Fire Fiesta Festival will be held from July 3rd to the 9th in eastern Santiago de Cuba province. On this occasion, it will be dedicated to the Colombian Caribbean, pointed out Orlando Verges, member of the organizing committee.

Verges, also director of the Caribbean Center, informed about the presence in the Festival of almost 150 people and 20 researchers from the guest country.

So far, 1,189 artists and intellectuals from 20 nations have confirmed their attendance to the meeting, among them Venezuela, Curacao, the United States, Mexico, Argentina, Surinam and Colombia.



The organizing committee announced 52 places in the province where activities will take place for the enjoyment of the population, among them parks, theaters, avenues and other spaces.

The
Heredia Cultural Complex will host 29 cultural galas and 30 shows, as well as 35 fine arts exhibitions in galleries and other centers of this city.

The theoretical meeting The Caribbean that Unites Us proposes debates on the identities of the peoples, cultures of resistance, traditional knowledge, oral traditions, natural medicine and religion, all of them related to inhabitants in the area.

Diana Ross to headline St. Lucia Jazz Festival 2012

Grammy award winners Diana Ross and Toni Braxton are headline the St Lucia Jazz Festival which is begins Monday April 30th to May 13th.

Diana Ross and  Toni Braxton replaced Lionel Richie who pulled out of the festival citing other engagements, the St Lucia Tourist Board said.

Saint Lucia Jazz will also feature performances from renowned local, regional and international superstars including Keri Hilson, Melanie Fiona, jazz aficionado Joshua Redman; Southern France’s Gypsy Kings; Ziggy Marley , Busy Signal, South African trumpeter Hugh Masekela; gospel king Kirk Franklin; Trinidadian soca stars Fay Ann Lyons and Bunji Garlin and a slew of Saint Lucia’s leading musical masterminds like Luther Francois, Ronald ‘Boo’ Hinkson, Richard Payne, Derek Yarde and Teddyson John among others.

Main stage runs from May 9th – May 13th.

May 10th at Gaiety on Rodney Bay Mario Canonge and Luther Francois

Caribbean Passion Costume features at Universoul Circus

On Wednesday April 18, 2012, carnival costume manufacturer Caribbean Passion Inc. was front and center under the big tent of the Universoul Circus. With a show stopper costume worn by guest ringmaster- Colette Cyrus-Burnett, stilt walkers, dancers, performers and guests from the Caribbean contributed to the wonderful celebration of cultural family entertainment. 


Colette Cyrus-Burnett is the owner of Super Wings and was selected to by the Universoul Circus committee to act as ringmaster for its Brooklyn opening night, titled “Fire Night.”

Prior to the Brooklyn Fire Night, the Trinidadian native and "wing master" hosted a day of celebration at her Super Wings located within the East Flatbush section of Brooklyn. Sharing wings, music, dancing, including stilt walking fun, Burnett proved that being ringmaster is not only under the big tent but out within the community.

Caribbean Passion also provided costumes for display for the community day. Hostesses dressed in Caribbean Passion costumes, passed out Burnett’s variety of tasty wings to the crowd. 

CEO of Caribbean Passion Inc., Shola Thompson is very honored to have produced a costume that was featured in a historical traveling entertainment staple.

“This is just the beginning. We hope to be a costume producer for other featured circus performers,” Shola Thompson shared with press.  

Colette’s corset was designed by Claude Desir, head and shoulder piece was designed by Nicole Mebane.
