Julius “Music is who I am”

Writer : Caribbean E-Magazine on Saturday, December 7, 2013 | 6:41 PM

Saturday, December 7, 2013

This passionate young man made music a part of his life as soon as he hit his adolescent years. I had the pleasure conducting an international telephone interview with Julius where he resides in New York City. He originated from the soil of Sealots, Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago.  Julius entered small talent shows but his recollection of his first major performance was for A.N.R- Robinson; song titled “The future belongs to me” by David Rudder. Some will remember the young boy rapping in the song, he is not a young boy anymore Julius had the honour of working with David Rudder with that 1991 hit. That particular song became a global hit which captured two awards. The former United States Secretary Hillary Clinton initiated back then, that track to be used in schools when delivering motivational speeches.

Julius sparked the interest of Machel Montano shortly after he was signed by Coral Studios during the time with the Jamaican & Trinidadian fusion Beenie Man and Machel hit “Outer Space”. He is grateful for all his accomplishments thus far.

Julius also shared the stage with many fellow Caribbean artists as well.  He performed alongside international artists like Red Rat, Lord Nelson, Kevin Lyttle, Maximus Dan, the Mighty Sparrow, Walker, and Buccaneer, just to name a few. He’s also performed with Shaggy in 2000, with his mega hit It Wasn’t Me when Rik Rok wasn’t available for a performance in Trinidad. Machel was said to have suggested Rodney for the performance because of his, “milky” melodious vocals.

Julius is currently the lead vocalist for 7IQ pronounced as “7 –eye-q”. His band showcases all genres of music he calls it “Caribbean Pop”. His main musical icons are the late David Rudder, Mighty Shadow, Enya, the late Michael Jackson and Bob Marley.

7IQ tours the United Sates. His love for soca landed him a nomination for 2012 soca I love liquor alongside Vijay Arjun.

His goal as an artiste is to spread music world wide without any limitations.  He is quite a realistic individual. When I asked him about his challenges he may have faced he openly admitted he is comfortable of his advancement in life whilst embracing his place in the entertainment industry.

His message to those who are dreaming to get involved in the music industry is to “be assertive in your craft and most importantly be different”. He intends to keep focus and live the life he loves.

“The Reconstructionist" Keon Dwayne Birch Celebrates Concierge Fitness First Anniversary

Writer : Caribbean E-Magazine on Monday, July 29, 2013 | 11:00 PM

Monday, July 29, 2013

He calls himself the “Reconstructionist” is a southern young man with a mission. Keon Dwayne Birch cultivated a liking towards fitness only after he was formerly introduced to Herbal Life products. Five years ago Mr. Birch did not have the slightest idea his life was about to take a full 360 degree turn. The word ‘fitness’ were far from his life goals.

After working for some years, Mr. Birch decided to take fitness seriously and became a Herbal Life ambassador on a full time basis as well as a life coach. This was indeed a stepping stone; a young 26 year old entrepreneur, Managing Director of Concierge Fitness Trinidad (C.F.T). He has a high-end clientele who he treats well with hands on personal fitness training whilst simultaneously pursuing his studies. Mr. Birch completed his certification in – American Council on Exercise, International Sports Science Association, National Academy of Sports & Medicine. His team consists of Dr. Anil Boodram and a personal trainer Mr. Alan Ferriera.

When reflecting about his trip to London which catapulted his decision to open his business without hesitation. Keon’s past business influence with Guystein’s Collection Limited, a small fashion/image consultant boutique now tailors his approach by using some of the business development and hospitality skills to shape C.F.T. The term “concierge” is quite popular in 5 star hotels defined as a personal secretary for hotel guests. “Concierge Fitness more than just deliver personal training but also ensures the whole well being of his “children” he describes his clients are well taken care of. C.F.T offers, personal, mental, nutritional counseling and diet catering.

Mr. Birch operates out of Bio Fitness gym at The Falls, West Mall Shopping Complex in Trinidad. Services offered are not limited to the gym but also up challenging hills,  hiking including the beach. His pride allows him to feel successful in changing lives of his clients. He has no regrets looking back especially as today 30th July 2013 marks  C.F.T’s 1 year anniversary.

Keon reflected on his experience leading one hundred people during this year’s Hardcore burn out session, which re-assured his passion for fitness and also gave him a microscopic glimpse into his future.

After all Mr. Birch is looking forward to Carnival 2014, a busy time where people are super conscious of their bodies and he is ready to make people feel comfortable in their own skin especially to look perfect in costumes.

How would one who is not health conscious look at their lifestyle? Keon thoroughly explained; those who are not fit conscious advised to at least try to balance your diet. Drink water consistently, vegetables, fruits and treat yourself once in a while. His experience of excessive “junk food” played an instrumental role in his lack of energy, mood swings as a teenager. He stressed eating cleaner changes the body as well as the emotional distress.

When asked about the term “why the Reconstructionist?” Mr. Birch giggled humbly and gave a thorough insight to his formula. He conveyed what he does to correct and re-shape a person’s mental and physical outlook by gaining results and building one’s true will power.

The near future will open opportunities for new clients and a few years time his own gym complex. A new found passion as a “Reconstructionist”, he has bigger plans for the future and he stressed that it will be something Trinidad and Tobago has never experienced before.
