Doza Medicine the 'Whine Up U Body n Gwaan' former Portmore Empire/Gaza artiste has been actively responding to the demand of a likely huge personal fan base in the making in Trinidad.  Recently, Doza visited the twin islands of Trinidad and Tobago recently to make scheduled multiple appearances which resulted in a satisfactory feedback from the fans and a successful trip for the artiste.

Trini Reggae/Dancehall fans have been ardent supporters of the 'Portmore Empire/Gaza' crew which became prominent after a lyrical confrontation between Dancehall's controversial
DJs Vybz Kartel 'D Teacha' and the 'Gully Gad' Mavado.  In its hay-day, the Vybz Kartel lead Gaza crew was a hot commodity and in high demand across Jamaica and the rest of the Caribbean until things took a plunge among crew members and their boss, Vybz Kartel. Internal issues leaked to the media and damning reports surfaced. Popular Gaza students left the crew as Kartel grapple to maintain a good outlook of his empire. But the fans had already seen the potential of many of his young students and were already talking about them so it would have only been a matter of time before the fans started to gravitate to these Gaza bred artistes.  It happened sooner than later, Vybz Kartel was imprisoned then one by one; the talents emerged with a multiplicity of creative and innovativeness.  Positive or negative the messages they sent said little, their style and uniqueness said it all.

Doza Medicine hangs around his Portmore community and watched close friends and former crew members do their thing.  Everyone knows him; some believes he's shy while others thinks he is scared, but Doza does not agree with those views, in his mind he is the best and only time will tell.

As Doza rocked his Trini audience, see their reaction and feel their energy it all came back. He performed in St. James, San Fernando along with Sheba, Beetham for the President and Tobago sharing stage with Popcaan who headlined a poolside party called "Ice."
When Doza touched the stage in Beetham, "the fence drop down when me leave" he said.  While his performance in Tobago was, 'the sickest, the people dem literally cry eye wata fi me, them nuh waan me leave."  Doza's confidence took a boost, he returned to Jamaica satisfied and ready to move forward in making his presence felt, in Dancehall.

Incarcerated for several months now, speculations as to whether or not former Gaza boss Vybz Kartel will be released from prison have mounted to an all time high.  While some loyal fans patiently await his return to the Dancehall scene, some have turn their attention to Kartel's protégés and are more appreciative and receptive to their music, hoping they maintain if/not build and surpass, the momentum the 'Worl Boss" created.  One such is Doza Medicine who claim, "Kartel the 'Teacha' say me a di 'Top Student' cause me lyrics and metaphors nuh normal." Good with both Popcaan and Tammy Lee, Doza heightens his chances of 'getting a piece of the pudding' by way of implementing a promotional campaign to generate awareness.

Doza's latest project is a new video for current single, "Pretty Lil Thing" on the Flexrich Record Label. The video, shot and edited by Mikhail Williams has been uploaded to YouTube and is expected to hit cable as early as next week.
Fans and well wishers can follow Doza Medicine on Facebook for first hand information on other projects in the pipeline.  Pretty Lil Thing, says Doza Medicine, is for "all di hot girls" so log on..

Doza
Doza Medicine is a founding member of the Vybz Kartel lead Portmore Empire.

One of his more popular tracks is a collaboration he did fellow Gaza member Popcaan called, "Inna Grave Dem A Go."  Doza's contract with Vybz Kartel's Adijaheim Records expired late November 2010 and since then the focus has been on getting a big break in the local music industry.

We caught up with Doza in Portmore, St. Catherine and engaged him in a conversation regarding his career, the incarcerated Vybz Kartel, Gaza and the good ole 'Portmore Empire' days..

N.I.P.: Whaa Gwaan?
D.M.: Long Time Mammy, you good?

N.I.P. Yeah Man it's been great.  You're looking good, how have you been doing?
D.M.  You know we keep working it is what our is all bout.

N.I.P.: Yeah I understand.  So tell me Doza, for the purpose of those who might not be familiar with you, who is Doza Medicine?
D.M.:  Doza Medicine along with Deva Brat are founding members of the Portmore Empire.  At that time it was all about music and bringing together all Portmore base artiste. Vybz Kartel being the first major break through artiste, licensed the name

N.I.P.: We've heard so much drama about Gaza/Portmore Empire, tell us what are some of the most memorable moments you had being apart of this illustrious, controversial group?
D.M.: [Chuckling softly] Portmore Empire members were talented and represented an evolution to Dancehall and Dancehall music.  We think out of the box and wanted to do things differently, Kartel made things happen.  Overall the greatest joy was the 'family like unit' shared among member you know, yeah man da something deh.

N.I.P.: What was it like watching Vybz Kartel excel/
D.M.: Vybz Kartel's progress was exhilarating for me and I guess every member at the time.  Every Empire member felt proud of his success, for me it felt like a me buss.

N.I.P.: How did Doza fit into the Empire?
D.M.: Kartel the 'Teacha' say Doza Medicine a di Top Student cause him lyrics and metaphors nuh normal.  So much so Kartel as the Teacha would seek Doza Medicine opinion and ideas for making songs.

N.I.P.:  What happened, how have the 'Top Student' not gotten his big break just yet?
D.M.: I guess, it's hard for someone in the same field and as good as you are to turn around and manage your career.

N.I.P.: Yeah I guess, but having said that, what has Doza been up to lately?
D.M.:  The focus now is on getting people to warm up to Doza's music, building fan base..

N.I.P.:  So What do you want to tell Dancehall fans about Doza Medicine now?
D.M.: Wow, the time has come for me to make you believe in me.  I'm working hard and have songs out now you may want to download on your ipods. The most current, are Pretty Lil Thing produced by Flex Rich Records and Hot Gal produced by Cash Bag.  I might have been overshadowed but the opportunity to shine is here now and I am making the best of it. Follow me on Facebook, twitter and youtube.

N.I.P.: Thanks Doza, all the best with your career.
D.M.: Thanks mammy big up yourself.
