Reggae legend Beres Hammond released a dub version of his 2010 hit, "One Life To Live," Tuesday, June 25, 2013 on iTunes.

Hammond's new dub single was produced by Kemar" Flava" McGregor in connection with a series of newly-mixed renditions of McGregor's most renowned roots singles, recorded by the likes of Luciano, Gyptian, Etana, Bushman, Sizzla, Queen Ifrica, Capleton, Turbulence, I-Octane and Morgan Heritage. McGregor's new dubstyle version of "One Life To Live" is currently ranked as Beres Hammond's #1 download on iTunes.

Hammond has placed seven albums within the Billboard Top Ten Reggae Albums chart since 1994. He was nominated for a Grammy Award in the "Best Reggae Album" category in 2002, in connection with his 2001 studio album "Music Is Life." Historic Reggae Concert at Barclays Center – Stellar performances by Beres Hammond ,Shaggy and Maxi Priest

Writer : Caribbean E-Magazine on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 | 11:02 PM

Tuesday, December 18, 2012

The newly minted Barclays Center in downtown Brooklyn was the venue for the recently concluded 'BioLife Sounds of Reggae Concert' on 12.12.12 with headliners Beres Hammond, Ali Campbell, Shaggy and Maxi Priest and what a smasher it was! Jay-Z and the incomparable Barbara Streisand are just a few of the marquee stars who have played sold out dates at the new facility that is now home for the NBA's Brooklyn Nets.

Maxi, who got the concert started threw down a glittering performance for over 10,000 screaming fans in a glam-filled coming-out reggae party. His energy ricocheted throughout the jam-packed venue as the legendary reggae crooner belted out classic hits like "How It Feel To Be Loved," "Just A Bit Longer" "Wide Wide World," "I Believe In Love" and "She Gives Me Love." Maxi was later joined by NJ based dj Beniton who lite up the stage, partnering with him on crossover hits 'House Call" and "Jamaica Nice."

Red Fox and Shaggy
It was a homecoming party of sorts for international reggae star Shaggy, who at one time called Brooklyn home. Performing with his long time friends from the area Rayvon and Red Fox, the former US Marine demanded the entire arena get on their feet during his energetic set and fans obediently obliged, danced up a storm for the duration of his performance. Shaggy's set was spiced with all his big hits and more including 'Mr. Boombastic,' 'It Wasn't Me,' 'Big Up,' 'Angel,' 'Church Heathen' and the ballad Strength of A Woman that he dedicated to Jamaica's Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller who celebrated her birthday last Wednesday.

Reggae singer Beres Hammond, who made a scheduled stop at NBC’s Late Night show with Jimmy Fallon and the Roots band prior to his performance, had the women in the palm of his hands from the moment he crooned his first note. The Grammy-nominated reggae hit maker could do no wrong as he reeled of hit songs from his catalogue including 'Step Aside,' 'Putting Up Resistance,' 'Come Back Home,' 'Give Thanks,' 'Doctors Orders' and 'Rockaway.' 90 minutes later when the sweat drench singer made his way off stage, the consensus was he was the "Boss" for the night.

Having Ali Campbell close a reggae concert in downtown Brooklyn could be a dismal disaster. Campbell however being the consummate performer pushed those concerns aside. While he did not enjoy the same crowd support that Beres or Shaggy enjoyed, he certainly made a good first impression and connected with fans as he belted out 'Would I Lie To You,' 'Running Free' and the curtain closer 'Red Red Wine.'

Earlier, Ann-Marie Grant, Executive Director of the American Friends of the University of the West Indies (AFUWI) organisation accepted a US$10,000 donation from title sponsor BioLife for the University of the West Indies Scholarship fund. Also present at the concert was the Hon. Herman LaMont, Consul General of Jamaica, New York who endorsed the event. Promoter George Crooks and his hardworking team at Jammins Entertainment must be congratulated for producing one of the biggest reggae concert for 2012 inside the tri-state area.

As the reggae thirsty crowd slowly filed out of the arena at 12:05am in the morning, their pleasure for the concert's solid lineup and superb coordination was palpable.

Beres Hammond to unleash his brand new double-disc studio album One Love, One Life

Writer : Caribbean E-Magazine on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 | 11:06 AM

Wednesday, September 12, 2012

Whether Rihanna is quoting his lyrics on Twitter or Drake is retweeting that "Beres Hammond has to sing at my wedding," Jamaica's most prolific crooner has influenced some of the biggest stars today. Known to many as the "Otis Redding of Reggae," Beres Hammond has been producing and pouring out his smoky-sweet voice over every kind of riddim track for over three decades.

On November 13, the Grammy-nominated reggae icon will unleash his brand new double-disc studio album One Love, One Life with VP Records. The first disc One Love includes his signature classic lover's rock sound on new singles like "No Candle Light" and "Keep Me Warm," while the second disc One Life contains more of his socially-conscious, spiritually-empowering tunes including "You Stand Alone," "Truth Will Live On" and "Prime Time." Beres Hammond produced 19 of the 20 songs with co-producers Donovan Germain on "No Candle Light," Collin "Bulby" York on "In My Arms" and Michael Fletcher on "More Time."

Beres is currently wrapping up his U.S. tour with remaining dates in New Orleans, Orlando and Jacksonville. On December 12, Beres Hammond will headline the Barclays Center, NBA's Brooklyn Nets new arena, which will feature special guests UB40, Maxi Priest and more.

From his early days as the lead singer of the ‘70s funk-reggae infused band Zap Pow, Beres has consistently produced number one hits and iconic reggae anthems still played today. While newcomers are searching for a breakthrough hit and old timers are plotting their comeback, Beres is a study in longevity.

He released his first studio album, Soul Reggae in 1976 spawning the number one hit “One Step Ahead” and in 1985 the dancehall breakthrough “What One Dance Can Do” off his self entitled album. He has collaborated with reggae’s elite—Marcia Griffiths and Buju Banton are virtually staples on any Beres tour—and has worked with legendary producers like Willie Lindo, Steely and Clevie, and Philip “Fattis” Burrell. In 1990, his album A Love Affair from Donovan Germaine's Penthouse label raised his popularity to new heights. Cuts like “Tempted To Touch” and “Who Say” with Buju Banton are still huge in the dancehall today. During the ‘90s, Beres blazed a trail of modern classics for a variety of producers, from the strugglers' anthem “Putting Up Resistance” (Tappa) to lovers' laments like “Come Back Home” (Star Trail). In 2001, Beres brought us major hits like “They Gonna Talk” and “Rock Away” from his Grammy-nominated album Music Is Life. VP Records then released The Ultimate Collection: Can't Stop A Man in 2003 to commemorate Hammond’s career, and in 2004 Love Has No Boundaries, which features his familiar romantic ballads and mid-tempo dancehall grooves. His last studio album A Moment In Time was released in 2008 and features his most recent smash hit "I Feel Good."

Beres Hammond's track record of hits is unprecedented in reggae. He has also garnered an international fan base from his ceaseless touring schedule around the globe. He performs non-stop and has repeatedly sold out some of the country’s largest and most prestigious venues including the Theatre at Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall. In addition to Rihanna and Drake, he is also a star favorite among Alicia Keys, Carl Thomas and Wyclef Jean.

U.S. TOUR DATES:
Wed. Sept 19 (8pm) @ House of Blues in New Orleans, LA
Fri. Sept 21 (9pm) @ Plush in Jacksonville, FL
Sat. Sept 22 (9pm) @ Mela Room in Orlando, FL
Wed. Dec 12 (7pm) @ Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY

Reggae Singer Eljai releases "24/7" EP

Writer : Caribbean E-Magazine on Thursday, February 2, 2012 | 10:28 AM

Eljai(R) at RaggaMuffins with Tarrus Riley(L)
Eljai has begun rehearsals for his tour to support the release of the new EP 24/7 and will shoot a video shortly. "24/7" is a timely song that will connect with music fans and the EP will include the previously unreleased songs Empress and For You.

The California base artiste has already released an album entitle, 'I Know.'  This album features his two most popular singles, Don't Leave and The Leaders both of which hit number one in, Belize as well as, Jamaica and New York.

A good Reggae singer and entertainer, Eljai has performed on most of the major festivals in Los Angeles California where he now resides.  He has shared stage with highly respected and popular Jamaican artistes such as Tarrus Riley, Capleton, Beres Hammond and many more.  His performances are well received as he always ensure that he rehearses his set and connects with his audience.

While Eljai writes and records music according to the energy/vibe he gets from listening a rhythm, he seems to hit the right chord every time with his, 'lovers rock' type of songs than any other he has done.

His latest, Empress on the "24/7" EP truly reflects the heart of a proud brother telling his woman that she's, "not just a queen, you're my empress.  Love how you look ina yuh tall dress" these compliments are attached to a verse that says, "natural woman you're a beauty...virtuous lady I know many have tried, crafted by Jah's own hands so pure and dignified."
