New York Fashion
Week had
its first taste of what the Turks & Caicos Islands had to
offer – that is, in the terms of four fresh-faced fashion models lighting up
its catwalks over the weekend. The models, Felicia Williams, Stacie-Ann Thomas, Breanna Johnson and Nikeira Stuart were in town for show season and
took the runways by storm.

Whilst there, they modeled for
established and up-and-coming fashion designers for their Spring Summer 2014 presentations – putting
their mark on the Big
Apple! In
total, the models did twenty-two (22) fashion shows. What is more, all models
had scheduled appointments with 14 of the City's most prominent model
management agencies for the opportunity to be represented there.

From September
5th to the 12th the
Spring/Summer 2014 collections of many New York based and internationally
well-known and emerging fashion designer brands were presented to world. There
to walk for fashion designers at the PLITZS New York Fashion Week fashion
shows, the models also attended shows on the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week schedule!
Not only had they the opportunity to walk and witness, but also network – which
is paramount. The exposure and experience gained from their time in New York
will go a long way in shaping the realities of the business that is fashion
modeling and the next step towards making this a viable career!

"From the moment the girls touched
down they were busy with castings, appointments, fittings and rehearsals! They
were there to work, network and to develop themselves as working models,” said Mr.
Courtney Robinson, Director of Production for the TCI Top Model Contest & Fashion Extravaganza. “To
walk during New York Fashion Week is a huge feather in a model’s cap. That,
along with meeting some of the biggest agencies during one of the busiest times
of the fashion calendar – enormous!”

Stacie-Ann, Breanna and Nikeira for taking this giant leap of faith in coming
up to New York to properly get their feet wet. The designers were thoroughly
impressed with them. The agencies want them to come back after more testing and
development! It is with hope that they learn from their time there, that they
can tweak what needs changing for the better, build on this experience and make
their Turks & Caicos fashion dreams a New York reality!"
