In a brief statement his family has asked fans and the people of
Trinidad and Tobago to pray for him, but to also respect their privacy during
this difficult period.
His wife Margaret confirmed yesterday in
a Facebook message, which read.......

Sparrow
(real name Slinger Francisco) was scheduled to receive a Lifetime Achievement
Award last Thursday from the Trinidad and Tobago Consulate in New York City. However, he was unable to attend the ceremony.
His son, Richard Francisco, accepted the award on his behalf and read a message
from his father stating that he was unable to attend the function.
Sparrow, who in July turned 78, was admitted to
hospital since last week. It was also stated that most of the immediate family
are in New York and at his bedside.

the ‘‘birdie’’ is
a lyricist, composer, singer, and grand entertainer who has won the National Calypso Monarch title on eight occasions.
