“The House of Blue Mountain” slizzing hot in UK

Writer : Caribbean E-Magazine on Thursday, April 26, 2012 | 1:30 AM

A group of coffee lovers has come together as The House of Blue Mountain (HoBM) to market Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee (JABLUM), which many experts believe to be one of the best in the world.

Director Ammo Talwar, MBE says; “If you don’t know that the coffee you’re drinking is giving you more creativity, more passion and more satisfaction, then you’re not drinking Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee!”

HoBM is trading exclusively in coffee from Jamaica’s quality-certified Blue Mountain area, and early in 2012 will be offering British coffee lovers their first chance to buy the world’s most sought-after Jamaican coffee, JABLUM, over the counter in the UK.

100% pure and unblended, JABLUM is the only packaged coffee produced at the historic Mavis Bank estate. JABLUM beans are sourced from 6,000 smallholders and family-run farms, and are still collected and worked mostly by hand. JABLUM offers coffee drinkers a uniquely deep, rich and authentically Jamaican taste.

The House of Blue Mountain will be revealing its new approach to coffee culture at unique launch & tasting events held in conjunction with Harvey Nichols who are launching Jamblum Blue Mountain Coffee in 6 of their stores across the country and online

This will feature HoBM’s barista Miranda La-Crette demonstrating how to make the perfect cup of Blue Mountain Coffee and tips to compliment any dinner party, hosted in partnership with chocolatier Paul Wayne Gregory (PWG) who has created a line of Blue Mountain Coffee infused chocolates called Coffee Indulgence specially for these Harvey Nichols events in a duel branded (HoBM & PWG) 3 x chocolate box retailing at a special introductory price of £4.95.

Q & A

What is Blue Mountain coffee?
The Jamaican Blue Mountains – like Champagne or Bordeaux – is a legally defined geographical area where growing conditions are perfect, producing a uniquely wonderful taste.

Why is Blue Mountain coffee so special?
The Blue Mountain range has a rich volcanic soil, and a perfect balance of powerful sunlight and protective shading mists. There is never any snow or frost.

Why is JABLUM special?
Most coffee sold as ‘Blue Mountain Coffee’ is blended; bulked up with inferior coffee beans by as much as 80 or 90 percent. HoBM sells only 100% JABLUM which is certified by the Jamaica Coffee Industry Board.

JABLUM coffee beans are grown by farmers and smallholders as a part of their livelihood, not as a cash crop on multinational-owned factory farms.

JABLUM beans are checked for quality throughout the coffee making process, much of it still done by hand and eye. Quality assurance is so effective that there will be close to 100% perfect beans in each JABLUM batch.

JABLUM beans are naturally dried, usually spread carefully out under the Jamaican sun for five days. Then they are collected and “rested” for ten weeks.

Treaty of Friendship
Birmingham has signed a ‘Treaty of Friendship’ with Jamaica and is gearing up to hosting the Jamaican Track and Field Athletic Team for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and to Celebrate Jamaica’s 50th Anniversary of Independence.
