Willemstad, Curaçao – There are 23 young female representatives from across the Caribbean and Latin America, to run for the prestigious crown of Miss Caraibes Hibiscus, won last year by the Guyanese Tineffa Naïsso. Curaçao representation is in the luck of Marvia Laurence, who since the day she arrived locked the fans and public with her rhythm and dance flair at the “Miss Caraïbes Hibiscus”.
The 21st edition of the pageant began Friday, November 25 with the arrival of candidates. Its highlight is of course in the election which takes place this Saturday, December 3 at Maho Convention Center from 19:30.
The name Marvia, stands for "a wonderful thing" or "extraordinary" in Latin. She won the title in Curaçao, with just one month of preparation before arriving at St. Martin to compete. Currently she’s finalizing her Masters in Dutch Law, and carries lot’s of personality and experience. She’s known as first runner up Carnival Queen 2008 on the island, and also represented Curaçao in “PJD Caribbean Queen”. Marvia has been active dancing in the front of the most popular dance group of the recent years on the island “D’Art”, and has also been face of Theo Meijer Photography and Girobank marketing campaigns.
According to reports the Miss Caraïbes Hibiscus had a full and busy programme for the contestants in store for them which includes visits to Butterfly Farm, Loterie Farm fly zone and the plantation, St. Martin Museum, Receptions and Cocktails; Photo-shoots, sight-seeing, MIP office (Marigot), Collectivity Hall (Marigot), Dutch Government Building and the Harbour.
The Miss Caraïbes Hibiscus winner will serve as the spokesperson for the Caribbean islands throughout her reigning year, travelling on promotional trips to the Caribbean, Europe, Africa and the USA.
