Born in Clarendon, Jamaica, Jason Miller decided from a early age that he wanted to become a Journalist. That dream was given new life after he migrated to Canada four years ago to live with his father in Oshawa. While completing the three-year journalism Print/Broadcast program at Durham College, Jason developed a passion for newspaper reporting. During his studies he won the Durham College academic excellence award and the Ontario College Athletic Association outstanding media award for his coverage of Ontario college sports. He developed his skills by freelancing for Metroland papers in Oshawa, Clarington and Whitby. He also freelanced for the Calgary Sun and gained recognition from the Toronto African-Canadian community after he wrote an inspirational column in the Toronto Sun during black history month entitled "The black community must stop making excuses."
After graduating from Durham last April, Miller started his reporting career at the Toronto Sun. Before making the move to The Toronto Star in the fall, where he currently serves as a one-year reporting intern. Miller has passionately followed the progress of president-elect Barack Obama since he won the nomination to run for president. Obama's success has inspired the young reporter to take on new challenges such as embracing Canadian winters by learning how to skate/play hockey, curling and skiing. And if anyone asks can he do it, the answer will be "YES WE CAN."
