Jamaican singer Cherine Anderson rocked inauguration

Jamaican singer Cherine Anderson rocked the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC on Monday night as she took part in the "mind-blowing" events in the American capital surrounding the inauguration of President Barack Obama.

Anderson performed at the Green Inaugural Ball and was slated to perform at two more inauguration events last night - The Harry Belafonte Peace Ball and the 9:30 Club, both in Washington DC.

"The vibe and energy here is amazing and mind-blowing. There are people here from different societies and there just is this mood of celebration," she said.

Patriotism
Anderson, with a Jamaican flag in one hand, entertained the audience which included rapper Will.I.Am, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine, John Legend, actor Blair Underwood and former US vice-president Al Gore, who was the host of the event.

"He (Gore) congratulated me and said he loved the performance," Anderson stated.

"While most of the persons didn't know who Cherine Anderson was, they enjoyed it and really connected with the message."

Anderson was invited to sing after she performed her song Barack Obama at a club in Washington DC late last year. The song received an encore at the ball. She also performed A Little Bit of Riddim and Say Hey (I Love You) with Michael Franti.

While President Obama wasn't at the ball, Anderson said that didn't steal any importance from the moment.

Surprised
"I'm surprised that he could have stood up (and said his oath) because I know he didn't get any sleep because he was at so many functions," said Anderson. "The event was a celebration of the leader of the free world and the change that is coming, so his absence takes away nothing from the moment."

Anderson returns to the island this week when, she said, she will begin shooting the videos for Talk if Yuh Talking and Shine on Jamaica, the latter to be directed by her.
