Master Chef Marcus Samuelsson to Open Restaurant in Bermuda

elebrity Master chef Marcus Samuelsson is set to open the Fairmont Hamilton Princess’s signature restaurant in Bermuda by 2015.

 

The former guest chef for US President Barack Obama and the winner of the 2010 Top Chef Masters food will incorporate the flavours of Ethiopia, where he was born, and Sweden, where he grew up. 


 
Chef Marcus, an award-winning cookbook author currently has a restaurant called Red Rooster, which was opened in Harlem NY in December 2010. Samuelsson, together with Clarion Hotels, also launched a restaurant concept called Kitchen & Table. The concept's first restaurant opened at the Clarion Hotel Armanda Airport

Bermuda Fashion Collective Show Slated for Thursday, November 14

Model at the Bermuda Fashion Collective Show
The Bermuda Fashion Collective Show is for Thursday, November 14, when ten (10) of the Island’s top designers get to showcase their talent.

This year’s show promises to give electrifying styles and unique fashion never before seen.

Tickets went on sale on Monday, October 7: cost $40 for general admission and $70 for front-row seats. All tickets include a pre-show glass of champagne, as well as access to an after-show reception to meet the designers.

The event will be held at City Hall Arts Centre, 17 Church Street Hamilton – Bermuda.

Rochelle Minors wins Miss Bermuda 2012

The Mid-Ocean Amphitheatre at the Fairmont Southampton came alive Sunday night when 22 year old Rochelle Minors was crown Miss Bermuda 2012.


Rochelle won from a field of seven and will represents Bermuda at this year's Miss World competition in China this August.  She also won the Miss Photogenic award.


Minors is currently studying fashion design at the University for the Creative Arts in Rochester, England.

First runner up went to Chelsy Furtado while Lené Hypolite was second runner up.  Dwanae Simons was 3rd runner up and Miss Warwick Deshona Perinchief was 4th runner up. 

Other contestants included Dashunte Furbert who won the Miss Congeniality title, Crystal Lyn representing Southampton and Shannon Ingram representing St George’s.

The nights event  was hosted by Patrina “Powergirl” Paynter and Nadanja Bailey, and the judges were Glenn Jones, Kristy “Miss Thang” Burgess, pageant promoter Terry Smith, and former beauty queens Sophia Cannonier and Colita Joseph-Cook.

International Fashion Show 'Some Like it Hot' heads to Bermuda this Friday

Bermuda will come alive this Friday night as a fashion event "Some Like it Hot" will feature  models, designers and photographers from across the globe.

The Glitz and Glamour event will be held at the Poinciana Ballroom at the Fairmont Southampton and will serve as a homecoming of sorts for Mario Dismont of Spectrum Productions.

The fashion show will be covered by TV Station BTE and fashion magazine Fashion Avenue News, both from New York.

Celebrities supported "Syncairly Yours Foundation Gala" In Bermuda

Over the weekend various celebrities were spotted in in Bermuda, who were  all on the Island to take part in the Syncairly Yours Foundation Gala at Newstead Belmont Hills Golf Resort and Spa on Saturday Evening
Among the stars are former  co-host of the ABC "The View" Star Jones, Actor Danny Glover, “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne” star  Lance Gross ,Actresses Vanessa Bell Calloway and Wendy Raquel Robinson
The stars appeared at The “Diamonds & Caviar Event” to raise awareness for mothers  and families who are impacted by premature childbirth.
The foundation was founded  by Molessia Joyne after  her daughter, Selessia, almost died giving birth to her son, Syncair, at just 25 weeks.   Her family is also struggling with the extraordinary medical costs of more than $1 million that resulted from the uninsured status of Syncair's mother.
With the cost of  $1000 per plate it was a sold event, the event was oversold as it was catered for 100 people, but showed up

Miss Bermuda 2011 is Jana Lynn Outerbridge

A new Miss Bermuda was crowned  at the Fairmont Southampton Hotel on June 12, 22 year old Jana Lynn Outerbridge, who will represent her country at Miss World Pageant in London this November.

Jana a recent graduate of Tennessee State University received her Bachelor of Science degree and is  currently a member of the Cabinet Office Jumpstart Programme team as a Cabinet Office intern. She is hoping to pursue clinical psychology. She is said she is determined to bring any skills she gains back to the island.

The first runner up went to Channing Dill who was also voted Miss Photogenic, Rachel Sawden was 2rd runner up, Cratonia Smith was the 3rd runner up and Sharmaine Landy was the 4th runner up. Other sectional winner was  Davina Cannonier won the Miss Congeniality.

The pageant was last held in 1997, when it was won by Joanne Darrell.

Barbados and Bermuda Jazz musicians for Cuba’s Jazz Plaza Fest |

Musicians from twenty countries including Barbados and Bermuda in the Caribbean and Venezuela, Brazil and Argentina in Latin America are currently scattered around eleven locations in Havana and Plaza America Mall in Varadero, Matanzas, Cuba for the 25th edition of Jazz Plaza International Festival 2009.

Organized by the Cuban Institute of Music and the National Center of Concert Music under lead promoter Jesús “Chucho” Valdés, Jazz Plaza runs from February 12 - 15, 2009. (Source: Prensa Latina)

Barbados will be represented by Ming (drums) who will front the UNIT Band from Bermuda.

UNIT beat out four other Bermudan bands in a ‘Battle of the Bands‘ contest held on Father’s Day last in the capital Hamilton to pick the countries’ musical continent for the Cuban tour. UNIT was co-founded by pianist and singer Ben Lusher.

Ming, a Jazz promoter, has produced concerts in Barbados as well as Cuba and Canada. He will conduct workshops at the National School of Music as a follow-up to ones he gave to mid-level students in December of ‘08. These are being done as part of a memorandum of understanding between Barbados and Cuba.

Plaza Jazz Fest is once again an annual affair after having been a bienniel event from 1998 to 2004. It is the oldest of three main Jazz Festivals in Cuba, JoJazz and Varadero Jam Session being the other two.
