Zanté encourages feters to “STRUT” while partying for a purpose

s the greatest show on earth, Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival draws near, the producers of the premium all inclusive Carnival event Zanté are extending the invitation to the Soca loving public to come party with them while supporting the Kidney Recipient Support Group of T&T.

Zanté which is in its 5th year will have its annual all-inclusive fete on Tuesday 25th February at the Trinidad and Tobago Sailing Association (TTSA), Chaguaramas from 9PM – 3AM with the proceeds from this year’s event going towards the Kidney Recipient Support Group of T&T.

Zanté’s involvement with the Kidney recipient Support Group is one that hits very close to home for the event’s promoter Sharon ‘Pixi’ Thomson whose brother Lester succumbed to complications of kidney failure last August.

According to Pixi, “Throughout my brother’s stay in the San Fernando General Hospital, members of the Kidney Recipient Support Group of T&T were quite helpful in providing necessary information. Had Lester survived, there would’ve been a long period of dialysis and other treatment prior to him receiving a kidney transplant. This is Zanté’s way of saying thank you to the members of the group. They need funding to continue their much needed work”.

 

With a worthy cause, noble fundraising mission and elegant theme of ‘STRUT’ the 2014 edition of Zanté is expected attract to attract a fun-loving crowd of stylish, conscious-minded partiers. The premium all-inclusive affair will feature a unique mix of signature gourmet food offerings as well as top-shelf beverage options inclusive of the fete’s trademark ‘Pixi-juice’.

Additionally, Zanté will offer its local and foreign-based patrons pulsating music from top local DJs Private Ryan, Nuphoric and Kaotic and performances by Soca stars Lyrikal and 5 Star Akil.

About the Kidney Recipient Support Group of T&T

The Kidney Recipient Support Group of T&T is headed by President Courtney Tyson.

They have been in existence since 2009 and the membership is made up of past kidney recipients. The group is active in assisting patients that need a kidney transplant and supports them through the process before, during and after the operation. They are also dedicated to creating general awareness about kidney disease; causes and preventative measures.

Nurse Nisha delivers the cure for the common fete

Chutney-Soca princess Nisha B of the band Karma had a truly hectic Carnival 2013 with as much as 5 event appearances per night. This year the young singer has certainly shown the masses that much like her brother Ravi she can command massive audiences, deliver original crossover hit songs and offer her own unique ‘party prescription’.

In addition to garnering her fair share of radio rotation with her C2K13 hit tune ‘Wine Up Your Body’, her sizzling performance of the track in fetes sent several male audience members into a frenzy. Decked in a sexy nurse’s uniform among other sultry onstage numbers, Nisha touched down on several fete stages and at the recent events such as RAMA, A.S. Bryden’s fete and St. Anthony’s All Inclusive her mesmerizing moves motivated male patrons into performance mode as several of them climbed onto the stage to display their dancing abilities for the Chutney-Soca diva.

Most notably, much like her music repertoire, the very humble and hard-working Nisha has also seen an expansion in her brand. Recently, the East Indian beauty was signed as a local endorsee to international beauty product line Virgin Glam Hair. As one who always had an interest in fashion and beauty, she shared that she sees this product alignment as a natural fit for the Nisha B brand as she herself has many goals to accomplish on a global scale in the not too distant future.

As the T&T Carnival season has ended Nisha aspires to produce more original music in various genres and to continue to carry indigenous Caribbean music to various international borders throughout 2013.

Trinidad & Tobago's Carnival 2013 launched with new Format

There will be several changes to the format of 2013 Carnival as Trinidad's Government looks to get more for its money said Arts and Multiculturalism Minister, Lincoln Douglas during the launch at the National Academy for the Performing Arts.

"We might increase the prize monies but it will come with the responsibility of being an ambassador for T&T and representing this country through the year."


Carnival 2013 will be held on February 11 and 12 and the possible increase in prize money and the ambassadorship for winners were not the only changes announced at the launch.

National Carnival Commission chairperson, Allison Demas announced that the Dimanche Gras show, usually held on Carnival Sunday, had been dismantled, with the finals of the Calypso Monarch taking place on Carnival Thursday and the King and Queen Carnival Show taking place on the Friday before Carnival, dubbed “Big Friday”.

Demas could not say of what the new version of the Dimanche Gras show would consist but noted that a tender request had gone out for people interested in producing the show.

It was also announced that the semi-final of the Panorama steelband competition would be held over two days and Pan Trinbago will use the finals of the event to celebrate 50 years of the Panorama competition; Pan Trinbago will hold a steelband competition, called “Groovy Soca-Monday Nite”, on Carnival Monday in four regions at Ariapita Avenue (North); Coffee Street, San Fernando (South/Central); and Arima (East)/

Changes to the parade route were also announced but Demas could not say exactly what these changes would be but she did say those changes would include an expanded route, reduction of the number of vehicles that could accompany the bands and time limits to performances on stage.
