Trinidadian Footballer Akeem Adams Has Died at Age 22

Trinidadian footballer Akeem Adams, who joined Hungarian side Ferencvaros in August, has died at the age of 22.

Adams suffered a heart attack on September 25 following afternoon training. Since then a trio of life-saving operations were done his left leg was amputated to “alleviate circulatory problems.

On December 28th his condition worsen due to a brain hemorrhage, and he passed away this morning while on life support in Budapest 

The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) confirmed  Adams passing this afternoon. 

Adams started playing football at age 13and played for the youth international football with the Trinidad and Tobago under-17 team. He also participated in the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup and was part of the under-20 squad at 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup. Adams made his international debut in March 2008 at age 16.

Usain Bolt Planing Retirement After Rio Olympic Games

Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt announced Wednesday that he will be retiring from track and field following the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Bolt, 27, told the Associated Press

"I think it will be a good time to retire, on top and just been dominating for so long."

Bolt said he wants to again win gold in Rio, as well as set the world record in the 200 meters. He recently won three gold medals in Moscow

Since entering the Olympic realm Bolt has won six gold medals

"If I want to be among the greats of [Muhammad] Ali and Pele and all these guys I have to continue dominating until I retire," said Bolt.

Usain Bolt and Mo Farah to Compete In a 600 Metres Charity Race

Olympians Usain Bolt and Mo Farah will be competing in a 600 metres race for charity to raise money for their own foundations.

During the London 2012 Olympic Games both Bolt and Farah struck up a special connection.

 

Thirty-year-old Farah, a British Olympian champion at 5,000m and 10,000m, said the distance would have to be between 600m and 800m.

 

In an interview Bolt running 1500m would be out of the question as "it’s way too far," he said. "Six hundred (metres) for sure I can try because I've done 600m in training."

When asked about the challenge by Farah, Bolt stated…

"That sounds fun. It's going to be hard but it's charity so it's all about fun and enjoyment.

"I'm up for anything, for anything's possible."

Yohan Blake The “Socks Man” Talks About His Softer Side - Reading The “Note Book" in British GQ

Yohan Blake  (aka "The Beast"), recently did an interview with British GQ, where he talked about his famous $500,000 watch that he wore in the Jamaican national colours for every medal-winning race at the London Olympics. Blake has now upgraded to a new watch with a beast claw covering its face.

The “Socks Man” as he is affectionately called because of his love for “pretty sock”

“They call me ‘Socks Man’ back home because my feet are always pretty in my colored socks. I love to get them from different stores all over the world. The last pair I bought was in Canada. They were a mix of pink, orange, blue, gray. I like to have a mix as I always wear different socks at the same time.”

The ‘Beast” also has a softer side to him, as he enjoys reading the “The Notebook” and listening to Michael Jackson music.

Blake on his pre-race routine:

“Sometimes I say, ‘fly like a bird, sting like a bee,’ to get myself like Muhammad Ali to get a hold of myself.”

GQ: Were you surprised at just how much attention the watch got at the Olympics?
Yohan Blake: A bit but not that surprised considering the fact that it was a clash between Hublot and Richard Mille, [Usain] Bolt and myself. The funny story us that he only wore his watch on the podium - I actually ran in mine. Being in London where people love watches so much - it created a stir in the air.

You ran in the prototype. Have you now upgraded to the final model?
This is the real one here! [brandishes left wrist] The most interesting change between the prototype and this one is the claw on the dial. It's a really nice timepiece - I've never seen anything like it. It's bold so everybody can see! You can't hide it.

Unusually you wear your watch on the right wrist, but you're right handed...
Yes, I'm a bit different. When I'm running this is the "force" side of my body, so I want to feel it right here. By the time I check it the race is over. I check it on the podium. If I tried to check it during the race people would think I was being a show-off.

What's the best advice you've received in your career?
Don't boast about what you do. Even if you're on top of the world you never know when you'll be back at the bottom. Stay humble and stay focussed on what you do.

Some might say Bolt has made a career out of peacocking on the track when he wins...
That's different - he's very nervous. He does all of that to get that nervousness away. Trust me. It's a release.

What do you think most people get wrong about you?
That I'm a living and walking beast. I'm just a normal guy, you know? People can come up and talk to me and not be afraid to ask for a picture or something. I get it all the time.

How do you conquer your fear before you go out on the track?
I try to stay in my zone. Sometimes I say "fly like a bird, sting like a bee" to myself like Muhammad Ali to get a hold of myself. I want that adrenaline rush in my body.

What was the last stylish item you purchased?
Pretty socks. They call me "Socks Man" back home because my feet are always pretty in my coloured socks. I love to get them from different stores all over the world. The last pair I bought was in Canada, they were a mix of pink, orange, blue, grey. I like to have a mix as I always wear different socks [on either foot] at the same time.

What sort of music do you listen to?
Michael Jackson. I listen to reggae in training - you have to be rough [then]. My favourite track is "Dream" by Popcaan. But when I'm at home with my love novel...

Which would be?
Haha! [pause] The Notebook. When I'm reading I play Michael Jackson really soft in the background.

We hear you're already working on the sequel to your watch?
Yes, already working with Richard on the next one. I can't reveal any details just yet. You will see…"in time".

German-born Jamaican Tennis Player Dustin Brown Advances to Third Round at Wimbledon

Dustin Brown, a German-born Jamaican who is ranked No 189 in the world yesterday won his first major match when he advanced to the third round at Wimbledon after beating Lleyton Hewitt.

Twenty eight (28) year old Brown was born in Germany to a Jamaican father and a German mother but moved to Jamaica when he was twelve 12, started playing for Germany in 201 because of lack of funding from the Jamaican Tennis Federation.

In an interview with the Guardian, Brown spoke about his struggle with the Federation.

"I have two passports; I have a German passport and a Jamaican passport. Everybody knows there's a lot of trouble with the Jamaican Federation and I couldn't be bothered with that, I tried for 15 years. I'm playing for Germany now.

 

After reaching third round at SW19 for the first time in his career, Dustin was overjoyed say he cried "like a little girl".

Usain Bolt Talks About His Favourite Vacation Destinations

Usain Bolt recently did a Q & A with Yahoo travel about his favourite places to visit when on vacation.

The Olympic medallist has practically travelled the globe when it comes to track and field, but rarely gets the chance to enjoy the many cities he has visited.

So where does the world's fastest man like to vacation?

 

What’s something you never fail to pack in your suitcase?
I always pack my sweater/coat, because I hate being cold.

Carry-on or check-in?
Definitely carry-on.

Window or aisle?
Oh, must be a window. The only instruction I give to my travel agent when I’m flying is that it must be a window seat.

What’s your idea of the perfect vacation?
Doing absolutely nothing but relaxing and getting a lot of rest.

Tell us about a vacation you’ve taken that’s come close thus far.
After this year’s Olympics, I went to a private villa in Jamaica where no one had access to me for a week and just relaxed.

What’s the worst vacation you’ve taken?
I honestly can’t recall ever having a bad vacation.

Where’s your favorite destination for practicing your sport?
There are quite a few, but wherever the energy is great from the crowd, I usually enjoy the meet.

What's the most unusual souvenir you ever came back from your travels with?
I was given a lucky stone on vacation in Australia.

Ever try a food you wished you hadn't?
Anything with onion, I always regret it.

Favorite hotel, resort, yurt, train, boat you've ever stayed in/on?
Stayed at a hotel in Paris after the Olympics. I can’t remember the name, but it was the best room I’ve ever had in all my travels.

Biggest regret you've ever had while on vacation?
I tweeted where I was staying and that’s when the vacation ended. People turned up every day to see me.

The one thing you're willing to splurge on above all else.
Cars.

Three songs (or artists) on your travel playlist?
Jay-Z, Rihanna and a lot of Reggae/dancehall music.

Where would you take someone visiting your hometown for the first time?
I would take them to experience rafting on the Martha Brae River in Falmouth, Trelawny. It’s an exhilarating river ride on a 30-foot handmade bamboo raft that’s piloted by a trained “raft captain” who will glide the raft upstream through the lush Jamaica countryside.

Batsman, Kieran Powell Signs Deal with Pinneys Plantation Resort

West Indies opening batsman, Kieran Powell, has sealed a deal with the ultra-exclusive Pinneys Plantation Resort, in the Caribbean island of Nevis.

Powell, the dashing cricketer recently described in global media reports as "enigmatic," will partner with a leading UK-based group of companies, who are set to develop Pinneys.

The deal comes on the heels of a successful ad campaign featuring Powell and a leading national Bank, which is set to air later this month, with the charismatic player also recently re-signing a two year deal with his long-term sponsor, Indian cricketing gear giant, Sareen Sports.

The gifted left-handed batsman, a former student of the exclusive Millfield school in England, is a star undeniably on the rise.

He has even stirred interest from Bollywood film producers out in India, owing to his model good-looks and eloquent mannerisms.

This, despite an unfortunate blow, that resulted in surgery to the finger of the stylish 22-year-old left-handed batsmen two weeks ago, following an injury acquired during a regional match in early April, which has left him out of contention for the 2013 West Indies Champions Trophy squad that will compete in England next month, much to his disappointment.

Powell, however, says he is determined to get back to blistering form quickly and is concentrating hard on becoming fully fit in time for the West Indies' forthcoming Tri-Nation Tournament against India and Sri Lanka, in late June.

One of the most successful cricketers to emerge out of his native island of Nevis, he made his Test debut against India in 2011 and scored two centuries in a single match during the Test series against Bangladesh in November of last year to become only the first West Indian player since Brian Lara, and the ninth West Indian player in history, to achieve the feat.

Powell has displayed elegance, confidence and maturity beyond his years, which saw him kick off his recent tour of Australia with a sensational knock of 83 (his highest ODI score to-date) during the West Indies v Australia ODI series, in February this year.

But it's not all about chasing runs and bearing the fruits of his on-field success for this exciting young cricketer. Kieran Powell is also both eager and willing to give back to the game, to his fans, and to the community.

Following the ODI match against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) during the same tour, Powell took time out to meet and greet cricket fan Callum, (pictured), an 11-year-old patient from Sydney Children's Hospital in Randwick. The personal invitation from the international star and his Manager for Callum to attend the SCG game was an inspiring experience for the youngster, who is in remission from cancer and had just been through hip replacement surgery.

Powell also recently arranged for a cheque to be presented to the family of former West Indies cricketer and his Leeward Islands teammate, Runako Morton, who was tragically killed in a car crash in 2012.

Despite the buzz surrounding his incredible ability, the end-focus has remained firmly unchanged for the popular batsman. As the world watches in anticipation, the next steps of an exceptionally talented international cricketer, Kieran Powell remains humble, focused, committed and diligent about perfecting his craft and his first love; playing cricket and representing the West Indies.

Usain Bolt Out of Jamaica International Invitational Meet Due to Injury

Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt who was scheduled to run this Saturday at the Jamaica International Invitational Meet is out because of a slight hamstring strain, his agent said on Tuesday.

While training over the weekend Bolt felt the tightness in training over the weekend and after consulting with Coach Glen Mills decided not to risk anything at this early stage of the season, agent Ricky Simms told Reuters.

Simms also stated...

"It's a small strain and he's hoping to be OK for next week but you know it's day by day ... maybe for the two or three days. It just a problem of sprinting,"

Simms also stated that the injury was not serious and that Bolt should be ready to compete in 100 meter run on May 8 at the Cayman Islands Meet.

"I am disappointed to miss the Kingston meet as I love running in front of my home crowd in Jamaica," Bolt said in a statement. "I'm told it is only a grade one strain so hopefully I will be OK soon."

Usain Bolt wins 150m race in Copacabana beach Brazil

Usain Bolt opened his season with a 150-meter win on a track set up at Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro today

He won in a time of 14.42 seconds falling short of the world-best mark of 14.35 he set on the streets of Manchester in 2009 , on a specially constructed track in hot conditions in front of a reported 3,000 spectators.

Antigua and Barbuda's Daniel Bailey was second, ahead of Bruno Lins of Brazil and Alex Quinones of Ecuador.

Bolt said he was satisfied with his performance after the race, which was held under scorching heat on a four-lane track built on Copacabana beach in the host city of the 2016 Olympics.

 

"It was my first sprint race, definitely a good start for the season," Bolt said. "I'm looking forward to coming down here in 2016."

Bolt celebrated by dancing with a few Brazilian dancers after the run, and later threw his running shoes to the fans who endured huge lines to try to get near the track to see the Olympic star.
