Miss Universe Swimwear & Evening Gown Preliminary Competition - Caribbean Contestants

The Preliminary Competition of the Miss Universe was on November 5, at 8 pm, Moscow time at Crocus City Hall. The event was hosted by reigning Miss Universe Olivia Culpo.
 
 
Contestants competed in swimsuit by 2014 YAMAMAY swimwear collection featuring footwear by Chinese Laundry and Evening Gowns.
 
The coronation of Miss Universe 2013 will take place on Saturday November 9th at the same venue at 9 PM ET on NBC

Trinidad and Tobago Breige Wilson Wins Miss Jamzone International 2013

Recently the Miss Jamzone International pageant was held at the National Cultural Centre in Georgetown, Guyana and Miss Trinidad and Tobago, Breige Wilson, was crowned the winner.

First runner-up went to Miss Guyana’s Alicia Bess, while Miss Curacao Marvia Laurence placed as the second runner-up. Miss St. Kitts and Nevis Zinga Imo and Miss St. Lucia Consuelo Dupal, were third runner-up and fourth runner-up respectively.

The other contestants were: Netisha Alie – Antigua & Barbuda; Kimberly Herbert – British Virgin Islands; Christol Wilson – Jamaica and Keya Canaii – US Virgin Islands.

In the sectional awards Miss Guyana copped the prize of Best National Costume and Best Fantasy Swimwear  while, Miss St Kitts and Nevis won Body Beautiful and Miss Curacao, the Best Talent.  St Lucia won the Best Evening Gown.

The crowd’s favourite throughout the pageant were Miss Curacao and Guyana, who captured the audience with their personality and elegance. However the winner was chosen based on the Question and Answer Segment as the previous points awarded were wiped out.

The reigning queen was crowned by outgoing queen Miss Jamzone International Queen, Miss Jamaica Kerrie Baylis who told the audience that her experience and reign has allowed her to reach out to people and focus on the region, not just one country.

 
The pageant is presently in its third year of the international leg and was an integral part of the Hits and Jams Entertainment Jamzone Summer Break. The panel of judges consisted of past and reigning beauty queens and fashion designers.

Kerrie Baylis Wins Miss Universe Jamaica 2013

Last night at the Jewels Resort in Ocho Rios, twenty four year old Kerrie Baylis won the Miss Universe Jamaica title from a field of 11 competitors.


Baylis will be representing Jamaica at the Miss Universe Pageant in Moscow, Russia on November 9, 2013. She also won the sectional awards for Most Aware and Best in Swimsuit.

 
First runners up went to Chantal Davis while Salomie Campbell was the second runner-up along with winning Best in Evening Wear.  Rounding out the top five were Monique Brady and Kashema Scarlett
respectively.

Three times might be the charm for Baylis who in 2012 won the Miss Jamzone International 2012 and Miss Jamaica World 2009.  At the Miss World competition she was placed 16th in the Beach Beauty competition, second the Miss Sports; 7th in the Miss Top Model and 3rd in Best World Dress Designer.

Kerrie Baylis of Jamaica wins Miss Jamzone International 2012

Kerrie Baylis of Jamaica was crowned Miss Jamzone International 2012 on Tuesday evening at the National Cultural Centre in Guyana.  The 23-year-old Insurance Underwriter also walked away with a cheque of US$10,000, and captured the Best Evening Wear, Best Interview, Best Body and Best Introductory Speech awards.

Kerrie who is also a former Miss Jamaica World impressed the audience and judges with her confidence, striking beauty and flawless body during her onstage performance. When asked the question during the top five round

At the end of life what would you want to be most happy about?”

Kerrie responded, that at the end of her life, she would have made a difference in the world, noting that the Jamzone Pageant gives the delegates an opportunity to reach out to the less fortunate and touch their lives in every little way.

In her cultural presentation of “Jamaican Dancehall Queen”, she spoke of the lust of riches of her country and prominent international personalities including the world’s fastest man Usain Bolt and reggae icon Bob Marley. She then showed her dancing skills to the music of by Beenie Man, Sean Paul and Elephant Man, which sent the audience into frenzy.

First runner-up went to Louise Victor of St. Lucia, while Trevicia ‘Barbie’ Adams from St. Kitts and Nevis was second runner-up. Miss Guyana, Ayana Harris was third runner-up and also won the sectional awards for Best Smile and Miss Congeniality.

The contestants were each judge on her performances in cultural presentation, introduction, evening wear, fantasy swim wear, swim wear, national costume, and evening gown and intelligence segments.

Kerrie, who also holds a law degree, will promote Jamaica and Guyana as tourism destinations during her reign.

The judges of the event were Simone Beccles, Ulex Atwell, Steve Ninvalle, Krista Simmons, Joel Ganshaam and Chandini Ramnarain. Digicel’s Public Relations Officer Shonette Moore did an excellent job emceeing the pageant.

The pageant which is part Guyana's premier festival, Jamzone Summer Break and saw nine delegates from all across the Caribbean and Latin America competing.
