Trinidad and Tobago’s KajFAB Femmes will get a first taste of the new Kaj Resort 13/14 collectionTribu Sauvage, at the 2013 Trade & Investment Convention (TIC 2013). Kaj Designs will feature along with other leaders in Trinidad and Tobago’s fashion sphere to exhibit at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Investment (MTII) Boulevard from Friday June 14, 2013 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

In a pioneering move, the Tobago fashion house marked history with the May launch of Tribu Sauvage in USA and Singapore. Kaj blazed a trail as the first Tobago brand at ENK International’s exclusive fashion tradeshow, Intermezzo Collections, a staple of the US fashion trade circuit. With its humble Intermezzo debut, Kaj successfully captured the attention of New York’s leading fashion industry publication, The Daily Front Row. Amidst more than 900 of the world’s foremost fashion brands, Kaj was featured in TheDailyFrontRow.com’s haute highlights alongside Alice and Olivia, Nicole Miller, L.A.M.B. and Rebecca Minkoff.

The brand later led as the first Caribbean brand to exhibit and show at the international fashion tradeshow, BLUEPRINT, during Singapore’s fashion week, Asia Fashion Exchange (AFX). With its runway debut at BLUEPRINT, Kaj’s simple creations of bold tribal infusions set against a backdrop of wild animal and camouflage prints stood out among the pervading contemporary Asian aesthetic.

Fresh on the heels of a successful international launch, KajFAB Femmes may look forward to the placement of its resort line at Manhattan’s trendsetting showroom and online boutique, Lion’esque Style, from July 2013. While in its homeland, the Kaj team eagerly anticipates exhibiting from Friday June 14 to Saturday June 15 on the MTII Boulevard at TIC 2013 where customers can look forward to discounts on select items.

Additionally, on Friday June 14, Tribu Sauvage will grace the catwalk at 3:00 p.m. during a special presentation featuring the latest works of Anna White, Christian Boucaud, Claudia Pegus, Delia Alleyne, EcliffElie, the Fashion Entrepreneurs of Trinidad and Tobago (FETT) Collective, Heather Jones and Sharon Christopher.

In its fourth (4th) year, BLUEPRINT, is the only Asian fashion tradeshow that specializes in launching pre spring collections. While curating fresh and forward menswear, women’s wear and accessories from Asia’s most-talented emerging and established designers, BLUEPRINT also attracts leading international brands set on penetrating Asian markets. Kaj Designs is blazing a trail as the first Tobago fashion house to exhibit at Intermezzo Collections as it proudly launches its latest resort collection, Tribu Sauvage, in the USA. The event started on May 6 and ends today May 8th.

As a staple on the US fashion trade circuit, Intermezzo provides retailers with an opportunity to replenish ready-to-wear stock between Autumn/Winter and Spring/Summer fashion markets.

As a juried fashion tradeshow, Intermezzo boasts one of the largest and most exclusive rosters of exhibitors including Tracy Reese, Nicole Miller, 7 For All Mankind and J Brand. After submitting a late application and impressing Intermezzo’s selection committee, Kaj is determined to position its brand in elite boutiques and showrooms across the US. “Succeeding in reaching Intermezzo was no small feat but it is only the beginning for us. Now we must capitalize on this stellar opportunity to sell our brand while ensuring we meet the demand of buyers, merchandisers and customers internationally,” asserted Kaj’s CEO/Director, Liza Miller.

Kaj Designs to Launch of Its Latest Resort Collection, “Tribu Sauvage”

Writer : Caribbean E-Magazine on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 | 11:11 PM

Wednesday, April 24, 2013

Since the 2010 launch of Kaj Designs’ resort line, Tobago’s premier fashion house has worked steadfastly to position itself as a global leader in Caribbean fashion. Led by the dynamic partnership of President/Creative Director, Kevin Ayoung-Julien, and CEO/Director, Liza Miller, this year the brand is focused on growing its export potential and generating international sales.

The brand’s objective to capture international markets began with the strategic introduction of its more conservative and lighter feeling Kaj Resort line in June 2010. With a clear objective to establish the Kaj brand in international markets, the label launched its premiere resort collection, Shore Culture, at the 2010 Caribbean Fashionweek (CFW) in Kingston, Jamaica. In June 2011, Kaj marked an historic milestone with its launch in the French Caribbean with the placement of the Kaj Resort line at Guadeloupe’s exclusive Caribbean boutique, KOD. This move established KOD as the first and sole retailer of the Kaj brand in the region.

In February 2012, Kaj received one of its highest honours as it was selected to represent the Caribbean in an initiative of the Caribbean Export Development Agency (CEDA) entitled Caribbean Collections. This initiative sought to create opportunities for access to European markets via participation in the inaugural International Fashion Showcase at London Fashion Week (LFW) Autumn/Winter (A/W) 2012. In the label’s LFW debut, Shore Culture was favoured as it featured at an exhibition held at The Charing Cross Hotel while select pieces featured at a private showing at the Corinthia Hotel.

The Shore Culture collection made its final appearance on the runway at the Ocean Style FashionShowcase during the 2012 Audi Celebrity Golf Invitational in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The brand closed 2012 with the stellar achievement of copping the Tobago House of Assembly’s (THA’s) Business Development Unit’s (BDU’s) Most Promising Entrepreneur award at Tobago’s 2012 Business Awards in October.

The unique synergy between Ayoung-Julien’s ingenious creativity and Miller’s crisp entrepreneurial and marketing proficiency, specifically in the field of the creative industries, has poised Kaj Designs to become the leader in Caribbean fashion internationally. The brand recently gained memberships in the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers’ Association (TTMA) while registering with the Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards (TTBS) with a view to strengthening export readiness, deepening corporate networks and ensuring impeccable standards in garment construction.

As Kaj Designs looks to the future with the impending launch of the new Kaj Resort 13/14 collection, Tribu Sauvage, the young CEO shared, “I have taken an holistic approach in managing and marketing the Kaj brand which began with developing a sound business plan. It has taken several years of consistent research and planning to get us to this point. Fashion is not just about creating beautiful clothing. To ensure success, there must be a real strategy that informs all aspects of one’s operations.”
