ashion Models live and breathe by how they look, and how they photograph. A top model must have picture perfect skin and be able take great photographs without much direction or coaching. Over the weekend, participants making ready for the upcoming TCI Top Model Contest & Fashion Extravaganza took part in workshops on “Skin Care & Makeup” and “The Art of the Photoshoot,” and had a talk from a former TCI Top Model.

Tianna Williams presenting
Tianna Williams, proprietor of Serendipity by Tiana Demi, invited to give a talk on skin care and make up, said that to find a good skin care regiment for flawless skin, they must first know the type of skin they had, whether it be normal, oily, dry, sensitive or combination skin. She noted the three major steps in skincare: cleanse, tone and moisturize.

The makeup artist who’s work has been featured in Times of the Islands, Discover Turks & Caicos and done work for many a bride, then went on to talk about knowing your face shape, the shape and shaping your eyebrows, use of concealer, foundation, pressed and loose powders, using blushers and eyes shadows. The information proved successful as the young ladies were able ask questions to clear up any misconception that they had, along with ask specific questions on their skin care regime and what they should be doing right.

Of the workshop, Tianna said: “What I hope the ladies took away from out session was a better appreciation of makeup and the role that it plays in the fashion world. Makeup, like all art forms, is another means of expression and should be appreciated like any other. It was indeed a pleasure to share my knowledge with these girls and I tip my hat to Mr Courtney Robinson and the Organizing Committee for affording me this opportunity.

Christine Morden with participants
Christine Morden, owner of Paradise Photography, is an award-winning master and certified photographer who has photographed such persons as Michael Douglas & Katherine Zeta Jones, along with high profile clients such as United States President Barrack Obama and Michelle Obama, was invited to give a talk on “The Art of the Photoshoot.”

Fashion photography is all about bringing what the photographer or creative director was inspired by to create specific images by using a model to pull all the elements of the scene together to reflect the mood said Morden. To ensure that this is a success, a model must know their body and how the move, their facial expressions and emoting, what is their best side and how to feature it. What’s most important is that a model most be able to pose and work without much direction.

Posing can be a tricky point to master said Christine, however, she urged all browse through the latest fashion magazines to target a few inspired suggestions as well as getting a grip on what is currently fashionable. Her hope is that when they come to set, they need to have at least 10 poses at the ready and free flow from there. By doing this, they will be able to create more flattering photographs, be memorable and always get hired back by the client.

Christine said that: “Taking a memorable and striking photo is key to a successful modeling career. These workshops are so valuable because they bring experts in the various professions to help the girls get that extra competitive edge.  I was really impressed with the questions and the attentiveness of the workshop attendees. Wishing them much success in their future careers!”
