Caribbean Week in New York — the Caribbean Tourism Organization-presented initiative to bolster tourism — is underway and, along with the sun, sand, cuisine and natural environs in its arsenal, the CTO is unleashing star power to get its message across.

Award-winning TV and film star Tamera Tunie is the celebrity spokesperson for the CTO’s 40th celebration of Caribbean Week in New York.

Known for her many roles including Medical Examiner Melinda Warner on NBC’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” a recent guest spot on the CBS hit show “The Good Wife” and her recent co-starring part in the Oscar nominate Hollywood film “Flight,” Tunie will be attending events and getting the Caribbean tourism message out to the public.

“I am thrilled to work with the Caribbean Tourism Organization taking the Caribbean’s wonderful message across New York during this exciting week of celebration of the region’s vibrancy and diversity,” said Tunie, who was recruited by Marie Walker, CEO and president of the CTO New York affiliate Turnstyle Marketing and CTO New York office head Sylma Brown.

Tunie’s involvement is another plus for Caribbean Week events and activities, which include the Gospel Celebration, the Celebrity Chef Program, an art exhibition, a student colloquium, the Caribbean Fashion Tourism 2013 show, the One Caribbean Vacation Mart and Romance Pavilion and the Rum & Rhythm Benefit and Auction.

Among the popular public activities is the One Caribbean Vacation Mart and Romance Pavilion/Bonanza Sale, where specially-priced Caribbean vacations will be offered to the public, which will be held after work on Wednesday, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., at the New Yorker Hotel, 481 Eighth Ave. (between W. 34th and W. 35th Sts.)
