U.S Embassy Official Pleads Guilty to Visa Bribery- Popular Jamaican Entertainer Involved

A top U.S. State Department law enforcement officer has pled guilty to bribery in connection to issuing visa to a popular Jamaica entertainer, this according to Federal Prosecutors in Virginia, U.S.

David J Rainsberger whose was stationed at the U.S. Embassy in Kingston, Jamaica from 2009 – 2011, was said to have received gifts from Entertainers in exchange for visas.

According to court documents, Rainsberger was the assistant regional security at the U.S, where he illegally access State Department visa and Passport databases for personal use.

Mavado
Thirty–two year Rainsberger admitted he helped a well-known musician identified in court papers only by the initials D.B. get a visa in 2011 to travel to the U.S. According to the Washington Post the entertainer in question, is Mavado, whose real name is David Constantine Brooks. Mavado was stripped of his visa along with other entertainers and his visa was reinstated in 2011 by Rainsberger. In exchange Rainsberger received two watches valued at $2,500, and free admission to backstage passes and a birthday party hosted by Mavado.

Rainsberger faces up to 7 years in prison, though under federal sentencing guidelines he would likely receive less than two years.

No word yet on
Mavado’s visa will be revoked.
