Although cruises are relatively pricey
they can be a brilliant option if you cannot decide on a single destination.
Booking a Caribbean cruise is the ideal choice as most of the Caribbean islands have
something special and unique to offer that nowhere else in the world can.
Another cruise advantage is the constant entertainment that is available
on-board. This is ideal for families as it can keep the kids entertained, and
offers many other on-board activities including swimming and perhaps even
surfing machines or more with varying sizes of cruise ship, as well as evening
entertainment and round the clock food availability. Depending on the length of
cruise intended, most Caribbean cruises can include stops at a large variety
of places; Jamaica, Antigua, Barbados, St Lucia and Aruba to name just a few.
Another advantage with cruising the Caribbean is the current information
available about all the ports of call which can be gained by talking to the
cruise ship staff.
Most cruises will offer one day at each
island for sightseeing, so it is important to know what you want to see on each
island before arriving as you won’t have a lot of time to navigate to the area
and get back to the cruise ship before it leaves. There are a few main islands
that should not be missed, and here you’ll find a list of some of the best
places to visit for each one.
Barbados
This is usually the starting and
finishing port for a cruise and it has so much to offer for such a small island
that you won’t know where to begin. The island is covered in stunning beaches,
so if relaxation on the sand is what you’re looking for, you will find that
everywhere you turn here. If water sports interest you, head to the east coast,
the side of the island that Barbados meets the Atlantic Ocean, offering amazing
waves suitable for surfing and jet skis. There are many areas here you may want
to visit, but an amazing day out can be had at Harrison’s Cave, a stunning
natural cave network, filled with stalagmites and stalactites. Local food is
available from most places here, however if you have time take a trip to
Oistins fish fry to try some of the freshest fish caught locally and cooked in
front of you.
Jamaica
Jamaica offers a massive array of
options for visitors, with some of the most popular places to visit being
Negril, Montego Bay and Dunn’s River Falls. Montego Bay is the most accessible
for people arriving by cruise as it has a cruise line terminal. It offers
many attractions for tourists, one of the most popular being the Rastafari
Indigenous Village and the Bob Marley Experience & Theatre. There are also
amazing beaches at Montego
Bay, with many water sports available to try as well as some Caribbean
adventure water tours. Getting food here is not a problem, with many
restaurants in the area. One to try is Nikkita’s; offering authentic Caribbean
food that is presented beautifully, allowing visitors to try and find out what
the local food is like.
St
Lucia
This is a stunning island with amazing
landscape. A visit here is something that should be remembered and there is no
better way to do this than by visiting St Lucia volcano, Mt. Soufriere. It is
an active gas-only volcano, so completely safe to visit, and features sulphur
pools that you can bathe in if desired. It is the only drive-in volcano in the
world and is an area that should not be missed by anyone visiting St Lucia. For a
taste of the local food try heading to Gee's Bon Manje in Soufriere; offering
the best of local cuisine, it has excellent service and will not be a
disappointment for anyone looking for a taste of the local.
Visiting the Caribbean is an amazing
experience and getting to see so many new places on a cruise makes it much more
special. The weather is amazing, the beaches are fantastic and the locals are
friendly, it is the ideal getaway to relax and unwind. Each island has
something different to offer, so make sure you get to see everything you plan
to – and be sure to make it back to the cruise ship in time!
