Rihanna 's "Man down" video which was directed by Anthony Mandler and filmed in Jamaica April, premiered Tuesday, and is now stirring controversy.
The video gives quite a literal interpretation of the lyrics, featuring her, while living in the Islands, is getting abused by a boyfriend , and then taking the ultimate revenge , "killing". Instead of seeking help and reporting the assault to the authority, she takes the matter into her own hands by shooting him down in a crowded train station.
Due to the murder scene in the video , the Parents Television Council (PTC), is outrage. In a statement by Melissa Henson director of communications and public education for the PTC said, "Rihanna's personal story and status as a celebrity superstar provided a golden opportunity for the singer to send an important message to female victims of rape and domestic violence."
Rihanna took to Twitter on today to defend herself,, tweeting that the video was meant to deliver positive message and not the other way around.
Many of her young fans found the music video inspirational. What are your views?
