Dudus – JAMAICA’S FIRST PRESIDENT, releases tomorrow

Ever since news surfaced about the impending release of a non-fictional, investigative volume, appropriately titled, Dudus – JAMAICA’S FIRST PRESIDENT - 1992 – 2010 - His Rise, His Reign, His Demise; which focuses primarily on one of Jamaica’s most infamous, Michael Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke and the events that led up to and unfolded behind the now infamous Tivoli Gardens incursion, which left the staggering body count of seventy-four Jamaicans dead, bookstores have had their hands full, even though the anticipated volume is not scheduled for release until next Tuesday May 24th, one year to the date of the actual incursion that left countless dead, displaced and disoriented, even to date.   According to Nicola Shorter, Purchasing Manager for Jamaica’s largest bookstore chain, Sangster’s Book Stores, “the anticipation is beyond words, I mean, people actually want to read about this man, and I must say that the interest is right across the board. One of the most interesting occurrences since the promotion started in our stores was just a few days ago at our King Street branch, where we had over one hundred inquires, over one hundred, and they all, I mean all left with promo flyers, refusing to leave them behind, and were all clear that they were coming to purchase their copies on Tuesday, as soon as we are open. The interest is that great.”  The sentiments run along the same lines when it comes to Jamaica’s other book distribution bigwig; Kingston Book Shop, who according to Mr. Mullings, purchasing manager for said entity, “the calls and inquiries have been coming, and from all indications, we expect this to be a bestseller.” According to Pageturner’s CEO Mr. Karl Larmond, “it’s all systems go, the books are ready and most have been delivered to our distributors, and we trust that our publication will be received in the way that both our company and the author intended it to be; as an eye opener, and a source that encourages dialogue, which hopefully will lead to real and permanent change.”  DUDUS – Jamaica’s FIRST President 1992 – 2010 - HIS RISE, HIS REIGN, HIS DEMISE: Official release date, May 24th.
