W
hoever said a woman can’t do it all certainly wasn’t talking about SharLisa Di Peterson.

With an ever-expanding media career, the effervescent Dutch-Antillean/Dominican/New Yorker and webisode/radio personality, multi-media manager, writer [and the list goes on] can celebrate yet another major milestone – becoming the Editor-in-Chief (alongside the magazine owner, Janet Miller) of CARIBBEAN ENTERTAINMENT MAGAZINE.

Is she ready for the challenge? Of course!

In fact, SharLisa has already hit the ground running and vows to do her part to take the region’s entertainment industry to higher heights and provide a voice for Caribbean artistes in the United States and around the globe.

With a career in media that spans seven years, the 26-year-old is an emerging one woman media powerhouse. She seems to do it all – and then some.

Passionate about her career and conscious of the influence she now holds, SharLisa, affectionately called Spanish Dred, Sunshine or simply, Lisa, has worked with some of the hottest names in the music industry, including Mr. Vegas, Rupee, Beenie Man, Maxi Priest, Konshens, Cecile, Allison Hinds, Bunji Garlin, Fay Ann Lyons and Wyclef Jean, to name a few.

Her foray in media began at Laser 101fm radio station- a popular station in St Maarten where she co-hosted a well-known segment called Friday Fruckass with popular radio personality, GEE MONEY. After her first high school year at Milton Peters College in St. Maarten and finishing up [H.S] at Benjamin Cardozo High School [Queens, New York]SharLisa landed a job as an intern in the programming and scheduling/Music Video Acquisition department at the Caribbean music network, Tempo. Although it was a non-paying job at first, she took the opportunity to learn more about the media and later used those skills to help found the CARIBBEAN AMERICAN BUZZ (C.A.B) with a group of fellow interns. The C.A.B premiere series with season one to commence in October] quickly became a hot topic on the scene in the Tri-State area and her down-to-earth personality got her many gigs including hosting various talents, fashion and hair shows throughout New York City.

SharLisa, then, moved on to explore the other side of production at IRIEJAM RADIO 93.5 FM in New York City and began putting her writing skills to good use, contributing to various Caribbean and US magazines with one of them being BILLIONAIRE ENTERTAINMENT MAGAZINE.

Today, the talented entrepreneur is showing no signs of slowing down as she continues to not only contribute to media powerhouses, but, build her brand. She’s currently working on her very own multi-media empire, which she calls VIVA DUTCH productions, with the aim of producing and showcasing all facets of Caribbean culture. A true blend of Caribbean flavour with her diverse mix of ethnicities, SharLisa believes the region has a lot to offer the world.

Her tenacity and go-getter attitude can be traced back to her childhood.

Growing up with her maternal side of her family between the Dutch island of St. Maarten and the boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn, she quickly learnt the value of hard work and dedication.

SharLisa won numerous swimming and dance competitions as a youth and made up her mind that she would not be negatively impacted by her circumstances. She worked hard to achieve all her goals – even if it meant holding down three jobs, simultaneously.

With God, her number one source of strength, SharLisa beat life’s odds. And she did so in style.

A self-proclaimed workaholic, she confesses that she is always thinking about work, deadlines, and the next big story. But, when she does find some down time, she enjoys dancing, listening to music and traveling. She also loves a quick get away to Anguilla and Curacao.

This rising Caribbean star who is also looking forward to taking up a new role of red carpet host in the televised series DANCEHALL GOT TALENT and of course Editor in Chief of CEM and many other new chances to show and prove --but in many ways, her journey has only just begun.
