BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Miss World St. Kitts/Nevis Committee is currently seeking for young interesting females from 17 to 24 years old, who have a knack for pageantry, to enter the Miss World St. Kitts/Nevis Pageant slated for May 6 at Carnival Village.

According to Joan Millard, Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee, applicants must be unmarried, have never given birth and must be also be a national of the Federation. She also said that the competition is not limited to nationals residing abroad.

The young ladies would be judged in three segments – Swim Wear, Talent, Evening Wear and Interview.

Millard said the purpose of the pageant is to select an individual to represent the Federation in the Miss World Pageant that would be held later this year. She noted that the pageant is normally held in October but, according to a letter from the organisers, it would be held at an earlier date which is yet to be finalised along with the venue.

The Chairperson indicated that they are seeking at least six females to vie for the title. The winner would then be coached by a number of individuals, including Fatisha Imo who represented the Federation last year at the Miss World Pageant held in China.

Millard said the Miss World Pageant is beauty with a purpose.

“Miss World is more than a pageant, because the contestants don’t only receive points onstage; they receive points for different things. From the time they arrive at the location and get off the plane they are being judged,” she added.

Although there would not be a monetary award to the crowned Miss World St. Kitts/Nevis, all expenses would be paid for the individual to compete in the Miss World Pageant.

This would mark the second staging of the Miss World St. Kitts/Nevis Pageant, as 2009 saw the inaugural pageant which was captured by Venetta Zakers. However, the pageant saw a one-year hiatus and is now back and headed by a new committee.
