Bahamian artist Shanoon Miller to release album titled "Soul of Dreams"

SHE'S not the next Beyonce, Keri Hilson, or the next Rihanna, but after listening to a few tracks from her new album titled "Soul of Dreams", it is very easy to mistake Bahamian artist Shanoon Miller for one of them.

A singing sensation since the age of seven, she uses music as a vessel to reach her childhood dreams. She exposes her very thoughts, emotions, and experiences in the midst of melodic infusions and rhythmic backdrops on "Soul of Dreams".

And living by the mantra 'doing things different", is what she said separates her as an artist and her music from other local Bahamian singers and song writers.

"Each single on that album thrives from emotions. The way each song is recorded was exactly the way I felt when I was in the studio. Whether I am feeling good or bad I somehow transfer that same emotion into music which makes it sound natural," she said.

The music on the album is not limited to one genre. Though she classifies it as "Soul Pop" she tried her hand at a little bit of everything.

She believes that to actually be successful as an artist and bask in the longevity of one's musical career, their work must encircle a variety not usually seen or heard.

"This consistency and versatility is something that I brought to my music. It is very universal and I am trying to attract audiences of diverse cultures," Shanoon explained.

"We want her music to be well received by the local Bahamian audience. However it is our hope for her to go international with her music. And to do that she must maintain her Bahamian flavour and sing a other musical styles to grab audiences everywhere," manager Kendall Richardson told Tribune Entertainment.

And speaking of international acceptance of her music, Mr Richardson said he had entered her music in a competition to be heard by well known American rapper 50 Cent.

"The rapper was looking for a few singers to perform with him, so I decided to enter her music in the competition and she actually made the top 100 to audition personally for the artist," he said.

Unfortunately, a spur of the moment trip to New York the following day was not possible. And although it was a missed opportunity, she is still positive about where her music can actually take her.

"To be honest I was not very disappointed because I feel that everything that happens, happens for a reason. There will be other opportunities just like that one, and it made me feel really good to know that he liked my music," she said.

Shanoon is already making her mark in the music industry which she said she endeavors to change time by time. She has already shot the video for her single "No substitution" which is a combination of hip hop with jazz undertones.

She expects to release "Soul of Dreams" this coming June.

Born in Nassau, Bahamas and raised in New York City, Shanoon Mills derives from African American and Bahamian ancestry and has embraced both heritages and cultures.

Despite her musical influence by artists such as: Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Sade, Toni Braxton, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson, Shanoon's inspiration to become a performer was not by such mainstream entertainers, but rather by her mother and grandmother.

When she is not writing or creating music, Shanoon is busy perfecting her live performances which have become a must-see. Packed with nonstop action that exudes excitement and her musical prowess, Shanoon dares to be the performer her fans and supporters deserve.

She pushes herself to the limit when creating music, incorporating her past and current cultural and inspirational influences.

Shanoon describes her music as "Soul Pop" and declares her ultimate goal in her career as "international fame." She is committed to change the sound of the music industry one note at a time.
