Matisyahu removes Sean Paul from the top of Billboard’s Reggae album chart

Jewish reggae artiste Matisyahu earns his fifth number one Billboard Reggae album title this week, as his Sony release Light, debuts in the penthouse.

Matisyahu’s journey on the Billboard Reggae album chart, has been documented since 2005, when Live at Stubbs saddled its way to a number thirty debut on the Billboard 200. The following year, Youth stalled at number four, while the 2007 release No Place to Be managed to crawl its way to number 146.

Shattered EP didn’t chart on the Billboard 200 when it was released in 2008, but it managed to soar to the top of the Reggae album tally.

Matisyahu’s surge ended Sean Paul’s reign at the top of the Billboard Reggae album chart. With sales of more than 28,000 copies posted in its opening week, Paul’s Imperial Blaze unpacked its traveling bags for a single week in the top spot.
