The third annual Caribbean Regional Alliance (CARA) Theatre Festival will be held in Antigua and Barbuda this year. The event which is set to take place from August 31to September 5 under the theme ‘Uniting the Caribbean through the Theatre’ will feature over one hundred participants from fifteen Caribbean countries who will be showcasing their talents in drama, music and dance.

Eleven contestants have been confirmed for the Miss Caribbean Culture Pageant this year. The event which is scheduled to take place on Friday July 24 will be held at the Cultural Complex in Nevis. Soca artiste Salt whose real name is Patrick Bellamy, has the number one song this week on the charts in Barbados. The funny novelty song has been making inroads on the Caribbean scene ever since it was released a few months ago.

The honourees for the seventh annual international soca Awards have been released. This year the soca Awards Organization, Inc will be honouring the women in soca music. Among the honourees are soca pioneer Calypso Rose, 2009 Road March champion Fay Ann Lyons, Denyse Plummer, Singing Sandra, Singing Francine, Ella Andell and Allison Henercy.

Shanica Mercer has been crowned the new Miss Caribbean Diva. Mercer who is from St. Kitts also walked away with the Miss Congeniality, Miss Intellect, Best Seller of Tickets, Best Diva wear and business wear awards. The pageant which was held in Tortola started back in 2006 to showcase the creativity of young women who are sometimes marginalized because of their nationality.

Raeon Primus was recently crowned St. Vincent’s 2009 Ragga Soca Monarch. Primus is a member of the Madd Symphony Band. Some of the other artistes in the Raga Soca finals included Danielle Viera, Shernell Williams, Troots and Ice, Tabia, Full Clip and Squitty.
