'A
lways take off the last thing you put on' This Coco Chanel paraphrase may be right when it comes to clothing, but when you see Beirut luxury handbag designs by Sandra J, you will never want to put them down!

Sandra J was born and raised in Paris. As a world traveller, she became inspired by the people & cultures she mixed with and discovered her creative flair which lead to her studing at the renowned Central Saint Martins in London and Fashion School in Paris. Her talent was great that she was lucky enough to intern for haute couture dress maker Zuhair Murad.

However, it was not until a friend's birthday where she decided to make her gift, a neon clutch, that she realised that her dream of being a designer would be in creating luxury bags. Not only did her friend adore the bag, all of her guests were quick to request Sandra's designs as well. Sandra set to creating her company of cool rock chic clutch, handbags and luggage, that Middle Eastern women have come to adore for exuding that extra something that can not be found with other luxury bags.

Her collections can be found all over the Middle East including Bloomingdales and Harvey Nichols. She is currently creating collections to be launched in Paris. Sandra also design jackets and shoes, so watch this space!

Powerhouse Designers For Caribbean Fashionweek 2014

Writer : Caribbean E-Magazine on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 | 9:45 PM

Tuesday, June 10, 2014

2

014 will be a year of firsts for CFW, which is no easy accomplishment for an event in its 14th year of fashion innovation and excellence.
Designers showing, include Trinidad & Tobago’s Claudia Pegus and Meiling, the UK’s Alicia Mullings, Jamaica’s Juliette Dyke of Julan and New York fashion house Hope Wade Designs.

These particular designers will also be taking part in the new online shopping experience, Shopcaribbeanfashion.com designed to introduce and export the crème of the region’s fashion design talent to an international audience. The CFW team has partnered with Jessica Huie, founder of London agency JH Public Relations (www.jhpr.co.uk) and international branding expert Kubi Springer (www.shebuildsbrands.com) to launch Shopcaribbeanfashion.com, introduce on-site shopping at CFW, and develop the brand’s business forum, which takes place on the morning of June 14, prior to the evening’s fashion show.

Claudia Pegus has truly earned her place in Caribbean fashion history. For over three decades, she has been internationally known for her signature designs featuring handmade embroidery work on various types of silk and other luxury fabrics. Her creations are wider in content, context and appeal, but these luxury pieces are the core of her CPFS label. Claudia is the recipient of Trinidadian national honours, as well as the Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence and Remarkable Contributions to the Caribbean Fashion Industry. She is also a CFW Caribbean master designer awardee.

Today when one thinks of fashion in the Caribbean, one name cannot be escaped…Meiling. Meiling is a graduate of the Lucie Clayton School of Design in London, England, but continues to learn and be inspired by the world and by the melting pot that is her base, Trinidad. Best loved for her ability to weave passion, confidence, sensuality, wit and individuality into her clothes. Twice a year Meiling produces two dynamic and breathtaking retail collections, guaranteed to set the town talking and aspiring to the Meiling look.

London based Designer Alicia Mullings found her talent in fashion design and pursued her aspirations back in early 2010, after she was made redundant from her specialist/qualified role as a sound operator in television. When Alicia is designing she is inspired by everyday people, nature, and a desire to be influential in encouraging positive attitudes in what can feel like a “negative world.”
Juliette Andrea Dyke
Jamaican designer, Juliette Andrea Dyke gracefully blends her fascination with history and a broad spectrum of influences, from art to nature, into coherent and flowing designs. Julan pairs the 50s silhouette with her signature shantung silk, cotton and linen for a contemporary natural yet eye-grabbing look.

Just a peak into what Caribbean Fashionweek 2014 has to offer this June 11-16th, Kingston, Jamaica.

Sai-ann Sultan to Launch "Sphinx" at Caribe Fashion In T&T

Writer : Caribbean E-Magazine on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 | 3:20 PM

Wednesday, April 2, 2014

Shows the Journey of the Professional Woman by Seeking the Riddle of the Sphinx

Following the success at last year’s Caribe Fashion, local fashion designer Sai-ann Sultan has turned to her knowledge of classical mythology as the source of inspiration for this year’s showcase at City Hall in Port of Spain. Come July 6th, 2014, she will leave the local fashion circuit ‘riddled’ when she launches ‘SPHINX’.

Inspired by the creature of both Greek and Egyptian folklore, her latest line will explore the journey of the professional working woman with twelve intrinsically designed pieces, tailored to blend beauty with professionalism at the workplace. The pieces are designed to represent the riddle posed by the Sphinx, who according to legend was ‘what has four legs in the morning, two legs at noon and three legs in the evening?’ Because the answer was ‘Man’, Sai-ann has decided to flip the concept to ‘Woman’, and her journey throughout her professional career.

“As a working professional myself, I know the time, effort and dedication required to maintain a professional look while considering other factors such as functionality, style and above all, affordability. The twelve pieces can be worn as individual outfits or can be mixed and matched for a completely different look.” When asked about the general theme of the new line, she explained simply ‘All working women go through three major stages while pursuing a career and the line follows that journey. As a young professional entering the workplace, youthfulness is weighed with uncertainty of unfamiliarity of entering a new working environment. That represents the first stage of the line, aptly named ‘Youthful Uncertainty’.

‘As time passes, she is now comfortably settled into the routine of the job and has now set her sight on progressing through the many minefields of the office. Older and wiser, she can maintain a hardened edge when dealing with deadlines, but still knows how to let her hair down. The four pieces in this section, ‘Professional Conquest’ represents the second part of the Sphinx’s riddle, middle age and I made sure to place careful emphasis in ensuring that the professional look would still be visually appealing without being distracting.’

‘Finally, as the working woman has looked back at her climb to the top, she must now nurture and shape the talent below her, just as she was once shaped by her superiors. Her dress code imparts power and authority, confidence and wisdom. Therefore, the last section, ‘Established Maturity’ would reflect the balance and struggle for power and respect in the boardroom.’

This will be Sai-ann’s second time featuring her designs on a Caribbean runway, following last’s year’s debut of BEAU Designs by Sai-ann, which received critical acclaims. Bolstered by that overwhelming success, the Southern born beauty is already gearing up to repeat her run-away runway experience. And the competition has better come prepared, as she now armed to the teeth. Check out her debut line BEAU on Facebook, follow her on Twitter  and read about the beauty behind BEAU as she sat down and spoke to Nu Woman Magazine in the 2014 Spring Edition

ABOUT SAI-ANN SULTAN:

This beautiful, aspiring fashionista, trendsetter and fashion designer was born on 18th November 1990, in the southern part of the twin Island republic of Trinidad and Tobago. From intrinsic floral prints to relaxed pastels; angular cuts and ‘geo-trini’ impressions, Sai ann continuously draws inspiration from several sources: her own past, fraught with obstacles, the duality in nature and even the latest trends are thrown into the mix. The petite Princess Town vixen’s sharp eye for design and knowing what she personally feels comfortable in while remaining stylish her own gift, one she strongly wishes to share.

Caribbean Fashionweek is produced by Pulse, a fashion and entertainment company which pioneered the development of the fashion and modelling industries in the Caribbean. The company is listed on the Jamaica Stock Exchange and was the first of its kind to be publicly listed. CFW began in 2001 and one of its essential features is to showcase the fishing design talent of the region to the rest of the world and drive export opportunities for the Caribbean designers.

The event has grown in status and attract world-class entertainment and a plethora of internationally successful models, however the focus in 2014 has returned to creating a platform for designers to monetize their creative enterprise globally. The launch of the ShopCaribbeanFashion.com will allow international fashion lovers to purchase directly from the Caribbean catwalk online or in person by attending the shows.
