Reggae Competition Show "Dancehall Got Talent" Premieres In New York

A

lthough reggae has been part of mainstream thanks to such legends as icon Bob Marley, dancehall has slowly and stealthily made its impact. From Grammy winners Shabba Ranks and Shaggy, dancehall has gradually seeped and is making its voice be heard as more than a passing trend.

Created and executive produced by LA Wright and Kevin Beswick comes an unprecedented televised reggae competition show with "Dancehall Got Talent". Dancehall Got Talent's mission is to breakdown the walls and prejudices that have prevented the growth and development of the genre while catapulting new artist in Dancehall to the mainstream.

The televised competition will be hosted by the Ryan Seacrest of the Caribbean, better known internationally as the Diva Nikki Z and be judged by dancehall star Timberlee, reggae legend “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” Ed Robinson, Irie Jam radio personality DJ Roy and fashion maven and entrepreneur Dougie Platinum.

The first tapping will be a star studded event of celebrity guests as "Dancehall Got Talent" has garnered the support of Dancehall and Hip Hop super stars like Mavado, Morgan Heritage, Ace Hood, Danielle, Agent Sasco, Samantha J, KES The Band, Cecile, Spice, Lady Saw, Beenie Man and many more. "Expect the our first taping to be star studded" says Nikki Z the Caribbean "Ryan Seacrest"

Dancers or dance crews will win the opportunity to be the official dancers for season II of #DHGT, will be featured in the music video of the winning artist and will be the featured dancers during the  domestic & international tour dates at the end of season one. Dancer auditions will be held on September 12th 2014, 2:00 pm at 153-01 Jamaica Ave NY 11432. The winner of "Dancehall Got Talent" will receive a $5000 Grand prize, a recording contract and global distribution deal.

Dancehall Got Talent will be seen worldwide on [OmniPresent Media] OPM Digital Network "simulcast" on all of the following devices: Roku, Smart TV's, Apple TV, XBox, PS3, Wii, iPads, Google Play, Amazon, Tablets, PC's, Mac's, Blu Ray Players, Smart Phones, iTunes and Androids.

Unsigned Only Music Competition Launches "Screen Shot"

nsigned Only Music Competition announced today the launch of a special promotion, "Screen Shot," geared toward the placement of music in film, TV, advertising, and video games. "Screen Shot," sponsored by Radio Airplay, offers the opportunity for artists to have their music heard by some of the top music execs who are looking to place music in various projects. Artists can submit their original songs from May 12-23, 2014 on the Unsigned Only website at www.unsignedonly.com.

A select group of finalists will be chosen, and their songs will be made available to almost 1,000 industry contacts who are looking for music for upcoming projects. Additionally, one overall winner will be selected and awarded $1,000 courtesy of Radio Airplay, plus 4,000 Radio Airplay credits, promotion on Radio Airplay's social media outlets such as Twitter and Facebook, and an artist spotlight feature in their blog and newsletter reaching over 200K members. All songs entered into "Screen Shot" will also be entered in Unsigned Only 2014, and all entrants will receive 100 free spins on Radio Airplay for each entry. The winner of "Screen Shot" will be announced in August, 2014.

Rita Marley Foundation Launches Essay Writing Competition

ita Marley has launched a new essay writing competition, with the theme based on her late husband, Bob Marley.

The competition was officially launched on Wednesday (April 30^th), under the theme, Bob Marley: His Music and Message.

According to a release from the Rita Marley Foundation, this theme ‘provides ample room for exploration and expression by competition participants.”

Competitors have been asked to consider and expand upon these points when constructing their essays:

·        How would you describe the impact of Bob Marley’s music on the youth?

·        What is Bob Marley’s most important message to the youth, Jamaica and the world?

·        How does Bob Marley’s life and his message encourage you to believe that you could?

·        How does Bob Marley’s music encourage peace in communities?

·        How is Bob Marley legendary?

·        Discuss your opinion of whether music can bring peace, love and unity.

This year, the Foundation has decided to open the competition to students of the following high schools in Jamaica:

·        Haile Selassie Junior High School

·        Bob Marley Primary & Junior High School

·        Marcus Garvey High School

·        Papine High School.

 

Each of these schools will assign a teacher to select its three top essays. The deadline for submissions is June 1, 2014. Judges will then choose the three best essays overall. The winning schools will receive trophies (gold for the first, silver for the second and bronze for the third respectively).

 

The winner of the competition will be announced on July 1, with his or her winning essay to be published on the Rita Marley Foundation website as well as its Harambe newsletter.
