Hollywood Actor/Activist Malik Yoba For Invest Caribbean Now 2014

resh on the heels of the Jamaican bobsled team's participation in the 2014 Sochi Games, the man who played a Jamaican bobsledder and wrote the theme song in the now infamous movie, "Cool Runnings ," is set to attend the biggest investment summit on the Caribbean outside the region, Invest Caribbean Now, (ICN).

Hollywood actor and activist, Malik Yoba, will be among the top attendees at this year's Caribbean Week in New York summit, set for June 4, 2014 at the prestigious Harvard Club of New York from11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Yoba's attendance expresses his support for the Summit's goals of sustainable development and investment towards building a stronger more economically viable region for the next generation and for Caribbean American Heritage Month in the United States.

Thirty-plus acting credits have solidified Yoba's status as a distinguished Hollywood actor. He has starred in a number of hit TV shows and movies including his groundbreaking role in the drama series 'New York Undercover' along with films like Tyler Perry's 'Why Did I Get Married?' and its sequel.

Aside from acting, Yoba keeps busy with his heavy involvement in youth activism and mentoring. He has educated and inspired urban youth through a variety of projects encouraging them to express themselves creatively and reach their full potential.

Yoba will be attending with his mother, Mahmoudah Young, the co-author of-the coming of age memoir, "The Screw Factory."

Ms. World Caribbean 2013 Gina Hargitay & Award Winning Anchor Maureen Bunyan to Host CAHA

Maureen Bunyan
Born in Aruba, Bunyan is a dedicated and renowned journalist who has supported ICS and the Caribbean American Heritage Awards annually.

She is lead co-anchor of WJLA-TV ABC 7 in Washington, DC. Her career spans a collection of reporting and hosting news programs on National Public Radio

She has served as the chief correspondent for PBS' Religions and Ethics Newsweekly. She has also served as a frequent substitute host for Talk of the Nation on National Public Radio and The Derek McGinty Show on WAMU Radio. 

Bunyan was one of the founding members of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), as well as the International Women's Media Foundation in 1990. She has won a number of awards including Journalist of the Year, the Immigrant Achievement Award from the American Immigration Law Foundation in 2002, as well as receiving a number of local Emmys for her captivating work.

 

Gina Hargitay - Miss World Caribbean 2013

Gina Hargitay
Earlier this year in Indonesia, she was crowned Miss Caribbean World - once again earning the title for her native country, Jamaica.

Hargitay was born in St. Mary's parish and moved to London with her family at the age of 8. In England, she expanded her experience visiting several European countries and excelling in academic. She completed A-levels in German, History and Chemistry this year.

She has plans to attend university and pursue a degree in History and Politics. Meanwhile, she's using her platform as Miss Caribbean World to raising awareness about child abuse and promoting youth empowerment.

Bringing the Ocean to Life ... Jamaican Marine Artist & Oceanographer Guy Harvey

Dr. Guy Harvey
He is renowned for his career as a diver, oceanographer, angler, film maker, and marine biologist.  

Through a lifetime commitment to the sea and spreading awareness about is value; Dr. Harvey has helped transform the public appreciation for marine life and the ocean. 

Growing up in Jamaica, Dr. Harvey enjoyed all the sea had to offer. He loved fishing and sailing. Soon he was filling sketchbooks of the colorful aquatic life he observed.

He merged his artistic talent and love of the sea to become a marine biologist. His beautiful artwork decorates miles of boardwalks and oceanfront properties around the world. 

His work in ocean conservation, carried out through a network of organizations including the  Guy Harvey Research Institute, works to protect fisheries around the world. The  Guy Harvey Outposts, a collection of resorts, inspires guests to enjoy the ocean, promote sustainable tourism, and engage in activities that do not interfere with nature.

Rags to Riches Tale of Haitian Actor Jimmy Jean-Louis

His is truly a "rags to riches" story.

Haitian-born actor, Jimmy Jean-Louis grew up in the slums of Petion-Ville, Haiti until age 12, working his way to become a Hollywood celebrity. 

In 2010, his deep love for his homeland caused him to shift his focus from his acting career to help rebuild Haiti, which was ravaged by a 7.0 earthquake on January 12. He is the founder and president of Hollywood Unites for Haiti, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping underprivileged youth in Haiti. 

Louis is an artist with international appeal. Early in his career, Jimmy worked as a dancer and a model in France, Spain, Italy, South Africa and England. He moved to Los Angeles in 1998 to pursue acting. His credits include movies "Tears of the Sun" (Bruce Willis), "Phat Girlz" (Mo'Nique), "Diary of a Tired Black Man", and the NBC hit television show "Heroes".  Jimmy currently has a recurring role on the CW show "Arrow".
 

He recently shot his most important film to date. Jimmy portrayed the title role in  "Toussaint Louverture" and won Best Actor at the Pan African Film Festival, the Trinidad and Tobago International Film Festival, and Vues d'Afrique International Film Festival in Canada. He was also nominated Best Actor at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2012. 

He is fluent in five languages and sings. He was an invited singer on the Quincy Jones project "We Are The World 25" to benefit humanitarian relief efforts in Haiti.

Louis resides in Los Angeles with his wife, Evelyn and three children.

She came to New York from her native St. Lucia with a dream and a bag.  Today, she is the style maven and muse of one of the fashion world's top names: Prada.

Her eye for style and her passion for art has earned her numerous cover pages as well as an insider's view of the fashion world. 

Today, she serves as Creative Director at Garage, an independent fashion publication founded by Dasha Zhukova, well known Russian philanthropist.

She serves as fashion consultant for the Prada brand, hosting several 'Miu Miu Musings,' informal group conversations on fashion.

Shala works as a freelance art consultant and writer, contributing to publications such as American Vogue and Harper's Bazaar. She also runs her own blog, 'Shala's Rabbit Hole.'

A favorite with street-style photographers, Monroque has been featured in Japanese Vogue, Chicago Society Magazine and New York Magazine and acts as a model for Net-A-Porter online magazine.
