Occupation: Student
at the University of Trinidad and Tobago, Corinth Campus, where is enrolled in
Sport Studies.
Hobbies: Eating,
reading, liming with friends, going to the movies, listening to music,
sleeping.
Last
book she read: Letters to Ailan by Wendy Fitzwilliam
Personal
motto: “Life goes on with or without you.”
Qualities
you like about yourself: My ambition,
discipline, determination, and desire to be the best at all that I put my mind
to.
Things
you would like to improve about yourself: My lack of spontaneity,
and going outside of my comfort zone more often.
Things
you dislike: People being disrespectful,
narrow minded, having a lack of respect and common courtesy towards others.
How did you get into modelling? For years people have been telling me that I should
model because I have the model “look”. However,
I was never that into it because not every tall, slim girl wants to be a model.
Also, I didn’t have the self-confidence and belief in myself that I really
could do it. In December 2012, on a whim I went to a casting call for a
modeling agency that a friend told me about. I went to it to prove to myself
and everyone else that I was right about modeling not being for me. However to
my surprise, the selection panel at the casting really liked me and invited me
to join their agency immediately. I stayed with them for 6 months before
parting company with them by mutual consent. I am currently considering an
offer to join another agency, and I am actively looking at what opportunities
are out there for me.
What
areas of modelling do you do? :
Print and commercial
What
are some you have done?
Being new to the industry my experience so far has
involved mostly working with local designers and photographers.
How
has modeling affected your life?:
I’ve learnt to be more comfortable in my skin, to think outside of the box, be
open to new experiences, and to appreciate my body in new ways.
Advice
to aspiring models: Do not be afraid to
put yourself out there. There is a lot of criticism and rejection in the modelling industry – but
there’s also a lot of that in life, in general. You will hear “no” more times
than not, but the one time you hear “yes” will outshine all of your previous
disappointments.
Future
goals: To
obtain for a Masters
Degree in Sport and Exercise Science, and become an athletic trainer – and
eventually a sports medicine specialist.
