Early
Influences:
Formally known as Tanya Collins,
Tappa-T
was born on April 1st 1986 in Kingston, Jamaica. She was raised partly in Duhaney Park, Kingston 20,
where she had a normal upbringing. Tappa
is the second of three sisters of which were raised single handedly by her
mother; this proves to be one of the greatest influences in Tappa’s career.
Growing up she was exposed to a variety of musical influences. Tappa’s
musical talent was discovered at an early age whilst displaying performance
skills from great talents such as: Alton
Ellis, Mighty Diamonds, Vivian Jones, Millie Small, Lauryn Hill, Toni Braxton,
Tanya Stephens, Marcia Griffiths, Lady Saw, Busta Rhymes, Usher, Sanchez,
Beenie Man, Wayne Wonder, Baby Cham, and many others.
Creative
Styles:
Tappa-T
describes her music as an edgy mix, classing it in a self-acclaimed sound “ja-meri-british”
which is credited to her multicultural upbringing.
She developed her ability to sing-jay (a
Jamaican style involving both singing and “deejay-ing” at the same time on any
beat) over the years by listening and identifying with the sounds of her
favorite Dancehall influences.
At age 11, Tappa-T
migrated to New York City. This was a major contribution to the artist’s
melodious sound. Tappa
aspires with determination, to deliver a
demanding vivacious sound in which her fans and critics can enjoy. As she
developed her sound very young, Tappa-T
migrated to London at age 16 where she was exposed to the British
Garage and Drum-n-Bass genre.
Though astonished at this new sound, Tappa
was intrigued and so, stemmed an edgy
yet raunchy sing-jay voice over a Dancehall and R&B sound.
Tappa continues
to write inspirational music that is mostly true to life. As a performer
she has created a delightful act that leaves her fans most satisfied, turning
new listeners into true number one fans.
New
Projects:
Tappa-T
has been on a creative mission; inspired by her musical influences and artistic
drive. She believes that music is a mission to inspire and empower the people
of the world.
Tappa
now resides in Jamaica. The multi-talented female has been creating waves in
the underground with singles produced by well-known producers such as Kill Beats
of Unruly
Productions, the musical Doc Leftside/Doc Evil
of Keep
Left Records, Ricky
Bless of Arms House Records
and many more. She has also teamed up with Lesley
Hayles to do her bookings and promotions.
The tantalizing persona portrayed by the
young recording artiste has already landed her monumental features on
combination projects like Konshens’ “Mad Mi” on
the Bong-Diggy-Bang Riddim and Leftside “More” produced by Keep
Left Records. This vibrant, melodious, musical
bombshell is definitely one to watch out for, for years to come.
