The Landscape, Climate and Local Language
There is a massive array of different landscape
here; with some of the mountains reaching up to 5000 feet, making Dominica an amazing
vacation for people who enjoy hiking or spending time in dense jungle areas, as
this is another amazing landscape that Dominica has to offer. The temperatures
during the day here will range from 23 degrees centigrade up to 35 degrees
centigrade, with the higher altitudes and evenings dropping to the lower range
of this scale. The coolest months to visit Dominica are between December and
March. Locally the main language is English; however many people are able to
speak Creole or French-based Patois.
Where to Stay
There are numerous beautiful resorts and areas
across Dominica, so wherever you choose to stay there will be something within
easy travelling distance to visit. There is the Atlantic Ocean on one side of
the island, and the Caribbean Ocean on the other, both sides have amazing
benefits and advantages, so the choice is yours. Whichever side of Dominica you
choose to stay on you should spend at least one day visiting the other Ocean,
as there some amazing features that both have to offer.
Places to Visit and Activities to Try
A trip to Dominica is not complete if you don’t take
at least one day to visit the lush rainforest that lines the mountains here; to
take in the fresh, clean air and see the beautiful naturally growing orchids
and colourful birds that are seen flying carelessly through the air, past
numerous rivers and waterfalls that make Dominica an area that is like no
other. Hikers will thoroughly enjoy a trek from Victoria Falls to Middleham
Falls; this is the ideal hike to take to view everything that has been
described and more, just be sure to bring plenty to drink with you to ensure
you do not get at all dehydrated. For those who do not enjoy hiking never fear,
there is an option for you to see the rainforests and stunning waterfalls too.
There is a 70-minute rainforest aerial tram ride that can give an amazing
perspective on the rainforest, and allows everyone to enjoy the natural beauty
here.
There are many exciting activities to enjoy here,
but one that really stands out is the jeep safari rides. There are many on
offer and they give a brilliant insight into the local terrain and the local
people too. Many will stop off at small villages and show you what life can be
like here, with people living in small shacks. What amazes most people on these
outings is how friendly these locals are, even with their tight living
conditions they welcome tourists into their homes and show them around; it is
an eye-opening experience for many people, and one that can be remembered for a
lifetime.
A visit to Dominica is not complete without viewing
the marine life – there are 22 types of whale and dolphin that can be seen
here! One of the best ways to view the marine life here is by a glass bottom
boat ride, as the visibility is amazingly clear. If you are more hands on you
can try scuba diving, a brilliant way to see tropical fish up close and
personal, and maybe some other marine life too if you’re lucky; not to even
mention the beauty that is the natural reef. If you plan on
doing an activity like this, ensure your travel insurance will cover this. Many
insurance companies will have a tight policy that may limit the activities you
can take part in, as some are viewed as dangerous, and scuba diving does have
some dangerous issues that need to be remembered. Preplanning here is essential
if you think you will want to scuba dive, so ensure you check your travel policy terms before doing so.
Dominica has so much to offer, it is best to
experience it for yourself and discover what you enjoy most while you are
there. The local culture is amazing, the food is fantastic and there are
endless amounts of day trips that can be enjoyed. Visiting Dominica will be one
of the best choices you have made in a long time.
