Caribbean to the World (C2W) a
music publishing company recently held a two day workshop at the Bougainvillea Beach Resort in Barbados.
The Jamaican base company seeks to bring
together the industry’s biggest writing names with aspiring writing and music
talents of the Caribbean, with the aid of Ivan Berry
of Beat Factory Music in
Toronto and Max Gousse of DefJam
Participants were handpicked
for their talent and passion which includes Caribbean Nationals and counterparts
from the U.S. and Canada who have been belting out songs that may end up on the
albums of the biggest names in music like Rihanna, Beyoncé and Justin Beiber.
The eclectic mix of ages, races, gender
and culture, which the more experienced writers said was an essential component
in getting the right energy and sound for the contemporary artistes.
When asked why the Caribbean has been
included in this elite mix of people, these writers made specific reference to
Rihanna’s success as a source of inspiration, as the focus has shifted to the
Caribbean as a hotspot for finding the “next big thing”.
