A.R. Tulsi grew up in South Trinidad amid rice lagoons. At that point her grandmother still planted rice and laid it out on the road to dry! She grew up reading Mr. Meddle’s Mischief by Enid Blyton and Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys and then graduated to authors like Agatha Christie and Isaac Asimov. She loves romances, mysteries and science fiction. Romances because she loves a happy ending, mysteries because she loves to be surprised and Science Fiction because she loves Physics! It was one of her favorite subjects in high school next to literature.

Initially she sees nothing so she pushes the door father and tiptoes inside and looks around. She tries turning on the kitchen light but it doesn’t work. The noise seems to be coming from her bedroom. Slowly she walks into the bedroom, her heart thumping warningly against her ribcage in protest. She finally sees her; a girl with beautiful curly red hair is sitting with her head on her knees sobbing on her roommate’s bed. Rati moves closer and sits beside the distraught girl. The girl senses Rati’s presence and drags her head up to face Rati. Rati almost screams in terror but controls herself as she looks into Gina’s bruised, battered and tear-stained face.

“How could you do..? How could you Rati?” Gina indicts in between sobs. “Why didn’t you help me? Why did you let me stay Rati?”

“Ah didn’t know Gina” Rati pleads...

“How? Why didn’t you ask me?” Gina’s voice is accusatory

“I’m sorry Gina, I’m sooo sorry” Rati is distressed and sobbing now.

She clasps Gina’s hand while she attempts to beseech Gina to believe and forgive her. The scene alters abruptly; they are no longer in Rati's apartment, but outside again in the dark murky precipitation. Rati turns to Gina whose hand she’s still grasping after looking around bewildered as to how they have ended up outside. Gina starts to scream in pain at the top of her lungs. Rati is horrified and at a loss as how to calm her down. Suddenly Gina transforms into Mike. Rati can feel the waves of hatred emanating from him and projected at her.

“You took her away from me, YOU’LL PAY!” He croaks at Rati…
