Looks from the Caribbean Collection of London Fashion Week 2012

The two-day event of the Caribbean Collection of London Fashion Week held at the Charing Cross hotel in London. 13 handpicked designers from across the Caribbean got a chance to showcased the their talent including Jamaican London-based designer Gavin Douglas , drennaLUNA by Arlene Martin, of Jamaica, David André (Haiti), Meiling from Trinidad & Tobago and Phelicia Dell of Haiti, whose range of handbags were chosen by Diane Von Furstenberg to sell in her chain of stores.

A private dinner hosted by Jamaican supermodels Jaunel Mckenzie and Nell Robinson was in honour of Jamaica Fashion Icon Grace Jones at the Corinthia Hotel. Grace was unable to attend due to illness. In a statement she said

“It is an honour to accept the first ever Caribbean International Fashion Icon Award, presented by the Caribbean Fashion Industry Association. In all my years of travelling the globe I have never forgotten my Jamaican roots and it is a distinct pleasure to have my work recognized by the Caribbean, in London, my home away from home. In receiving this award, I hope that I am also contributing in some small way to the further development of the Caribbean’s growing fashion industry, which has definitely come of age.”

Kaj Designs by Kevin Ayoung-Julien, Trinidad and TobagoThis collection has vibrant colours and prints with everything spring. The collection is festive and happy and good for a weekend event but still chic for a Monday through Friday wear.
