3rd Edition "Yard Vibes" on March 3 in MC Theater in Amsterdam

Writer : Caribbean E-Magazine on Saturday, February 18, 2012 | 6:48 PM

Dutch Reggae and Caribbean Creativity are proud to  present the third edition of Yard Vibes in Toko MC/MC Theater on Saturday March 3, 2012. They warmly invite you to relax and enjoy our  spicy Caribbean foods,  watch the award-winning documentary  RiseUp (incl. live Skype Q&A with director-producer Luciano Blotta!) and check out our massive dancehall afterparty featuring various sound systems.

After the success of our two try-out editions last year, we are proud to announce that Yard Vibes has been included in the regular programming of the MC Theater for 2012. This year we will host Yard Vibes once every three months, usually the first Saturday of the month  – with Saturday March 3 and June 2 as the two initial upcoming editions. Yard Vibes is an Amsterdam party in Jamaican (dancehall) style that fuses film, music and cuisine. In Jamaica, a yard party is a community celebration  - liming, chatting and dancing in the 'yard' with your friends and family. Yard Vibes transfers this relaxed vibe to Amsterdam and hails the original yard in the Caribbean through images, sounds and tastes.

On Saturday March 3 we will kick off at 6pm with dining and liming. Besides the regular menu card, Toko MC offers you a special Caribbean menu in combination with your film ticket. At 9pm we then screen the award-winning documentary RiseUp in the MC Theater. RiseUp presents a fascinating journey into the musical heart of Jamaica. On the Caribbean island where reggae is considered the voice of the people and an outlet for survival, director Luciano Blotta follows three aspiring artists who seek to “rise up” from obscurity for their chance at success. We meet Turbulence, an – at the time still unknown – charismatic ghetto youth from downtown Kingston; Ice, a privileged wannabe dancehall artist from uptown Kingston; and Kemoy, a shy but angelic country girl who barely realizes her unique vocal gifts. The result is a captivating and surprisingly intimate story about the bustling underground reggae scene of Jamaica.  Besides  RiseUp, the screening also includes a live Skype Q&A with director-producer Luciano Blotta as well as the Dutch premiere of The King of One String and Other Shorts created by Blotta while he was shooting in Jamaica.

The night continues with a club-vibe  afterparty featuring  massive reggae & dancehall sounds from Radical HI-FI, Wazari Soundsystem, Jahva Sound,  Boston Strip Soundsystem and Drunken Lion Sound

So come dine, lime & wine with us. Join the vibe at our yard. For more information visit:www.yardvibes.nl
