2011 has been the year for excitement and drama to say the least. We have gathered a list of the 10 most fascinating people in the Caribbean 2011. These are based on people who have the most effect on the media  whether good or bad through the year.

10.  Beenie Man and  Michelle Downer aka D'Angel  - Jamaica




These soon to be exes, brought  drama to the entertainment world this year.  Since getting married in 2006, the couple separated less than a year into the marriage, but went back together  in 2010.  After further consideration and many rumored break up, the couple finally called it quits in August 2011.

There was also good  news for the Doc, he was  honoured for his outstanding contribution to the reggae music, at the inaugural Reggae Rhythm & Blues Festival at Roy Wilkins Park in Queens, NY.



9.  Orville "Shaggy" Burrell - Jamaica





With his continuous charity work Grammy award winner, Shaggy still considered one of the sexiest and most charming Caribbean entertainer nabs a spot on our list.

Shaggy released his first new album in four years, Shaggy & Friends, which was released digitally on January 19, 2011.  On 16 July 2011 he launched the album entitled Summer in Kingston which contains his single "Sugarcane". The album was recently nominated for a Grammy for Best Reggae Album

Shaggy continues to be an influential power to Jamaicans with his charity foundation "Shaggy and Friends Make a Difference Foundation"  which  benefits the Bustamante Hospital for Children in Kingston.







8. Wendy Fitzwilliam - Trinidad and Tobago










The former Miss Trinidad & Tobago Universe,made it to our list because of her constant commitment to various charities in her homeland. Wendy is a mother , author , philanthropist, entrepreneur and TV personality






7. Darren Julius Garvey Sammy - St Lucia





Sammy was made Captain of the West Indies Cricket team in 2010. With the help of  Darren the West Indies won their  test series victory since 2009 , against Pakistan. During that match Sammy took seven wickets  including five in Pakistan's second innings, and was named Man of the Match for his performance

Sammy was named T20I player of the year at the West Indies Players Association awards. Sammy was chose as one of the most fascinating person of 2011, because he beat the odds, as fans deemed him unfit for the captain's position








6. Jeneil Williams - Jamaica









Jeneil can be dubbed the "top model of the Caribbean for 2011". Known for her 'lips and legs' this beauty has graced the cover of many top  magazine such as Italian Vogue . She has also worked with the most famous fashion designers, such as Calvin Klein and Karl Lagerfeld.

Born Charmaine Munroe, this year has been a come back year for Macka, as she was awarded the IRAWMA International Female Rapper/DJ for 2011.

With hits such as "Bun Him, Cowfoot, Tink Mi Easy, Try Wid Him, Hoola Hoop and "Mr Teki Back, made her one of the most successful female artiste of 2011, both locally and internationally. In November she also released a new album 'Don't Disturb Mi', which she produce
Macka Diamond made the list, because of f her continuous success of having been in the music industry for more than two decades






4. Nicki Minaj - Trinidad and Tobago









The year 2011 was a successful year for Nicki from elegant fashion, to wacky, magazine covers, good and not so good headlines, Nicki made the list of one of our favorite girls.

Her  success  with  "Super Bass"  a single from her Pink Friday album,  made top 10 in many countries. She graced the cover of  South Africa "Cleo Magazine" , W" Magazine,  Cosmopolitan, Glamour Magazine and ELLE Magazine.

Nicki  had her own E! special "rise to fame", and came out with her own line of OPI Nail Lacquer


She also became the first female artist to be included on MTV's Annual Hottest MC List, and was named the 2011 Rising Star by Billboard.  Nicki won the BET Hip Hop Awards MVP of The Year, and also Made-You-Look Award (Best Hip Hop Style). She also won American Music Awards for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist, and  Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album.  She was this year nominated for 4 Grammy awards.

Nicki also performed at this year's Jamaica at Reggae Sumfest 2011.






3. Usain Bolt - Jamaica
Being honoured with an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws by the University of West Indies, speaks volume for the 25 year old. He is also the 2011 World Male Athlete of the year, becoming only the second man in history to win the prestigious award on three occasions

In May Usain opened his 2011 season after a nine-month absence and ran a 9.91 seconds in the 100 metres at the Compeed Golden Gala, the third stop on the Samsung Diamond League. He won ahead of Asafa Powell 9.93 and France’s Christopher Lemaitre 10:00 seconds.

For his race of the season Bolt won with an identical 9.91 seconds in the 100 metres, as he did in Rome beating the fastest man in the world this year, Jamaica's Steve Mullings – who did 9.97. Racers Track Club teammate, Daniel Bailey was third in 10.08.


In Oslo Bolt ran an impressive 19.86 seconds in the 200 metres in rainy conditions at the Exxon Mobil Bislett Diamond League meeting. and a third repeated performance in the 100m of 9.91 seconds

2011 has been a great year for Bolt , having won the 200m at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Daegu, South Korea earlier this year with the fifth fastest time in history. He also the fastest time for the year over 100m, 9.76 seconds and was also a member of Jamaica’s world record breaking 4x100m relay team from Daegu.

Usain Bolt was once again nominated for the Laureus Sports Awards for 2012, which he won back in 2009 and 2010.

Usain Bolt, also continues to support his foundation the "Usain Bolt Foundation" which is dedicated to the legacy for happy children; to enhance the character of children through educational and cultural development, as they live their dreams.

2. Robin "Rihanna " Fenty - Barbados







Rihanna had some many accomplishment is 2011, voted sexiest woman alive, grace the cover of every fashion and entertainment magazines and ad campaigns for the biggest names in the business. She also dominated the social networking websites and history recording music. all this from a young lady who was born in Saint Michael, Barbados. She is indeed the most successful product of the Caribbean

Making many headlines for her wardrobe fashion and risque music, Rihanna makes the lift of the most fascinating female for 2011.

In November  2010 Rihanna released her fifth studio album, Loud, which debuted at number three on the Billboard 200, selling 207,000 copies in its first week, making it the biggest opening week sales of her career so far.   The single "Only Girl (In the World)", reached number one in more than ten countries including Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and the song also won a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording in 2011.

 "What's My Name?", featuring rapper Drake, which was the second single, also reached number one in the United States and on the official UK singles chart, making Rihanna the first female solo artist to have five number one singles in the United Kingdom in consecutive years. The song reached number one on the Hot 100 before making it the first time in Hot 100 history that an album's debut single reached number one after the second single.

With the third  single from Loud, s "S&M", featuring Britney Spears reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the youngest artist in the chart's 52-year history to achieve ten number-one singles.

Other songs "Man Down" and "California King Bed" were the two subsequent singles released from the album.The final single from Loud, "Cheers (Drink to That)", reached number seven on the Hot 100.

 In June 2011, Rihanna started on her worldwide  "Loud Concert Tour" to promote the album.

In October 2011, two collaborations featuring Rihanna were released; Coldplay's "Princess of China" from the album Mylo Xyloto and Nicki Minaj's Fly from the album Pink Friday.

Rihanna's sixth album, Talk That Talk, was released on November 21, 2011 in both deluxe and standard editions. The lead single "We Found Love" premiered on September 22, 2011 and was released on the same day for digital download in the US.

 "We Found Love"   went to number nine on the US charts, Rihanna became the fastest solo artist in the chart's history to achieve twenty Hot 100 top-ten singles, breaking the previous record set by Madonna.

The song later became Rihanna's eleventh number one single on the Billboard Hot 100. "You Da One" was released as the second single on November 11, 2011 and a music video for the song is planned to be shot in London before the end of 2011.

Rihanna will appear in the 2012 film Battleship, which is based on the game of the same name.





1. Vybz Kartel - Jamaica







This would not be a fascinating year without the controversial DJ, born " Adidja Palmer ", who is also an author, artist, songwriter and businessman..  Vybz Kartel made the list of  and was chosen the most fascinated person for 2011, because unlike all the others, he has done it all this year. 

His controversies stemmed from skin bleaching, having own line of cake soap, Air wave ban from various countries, own reality TV show and Murder charges.

The  unpredictable Kartel has is considered one of Jamaica's best entertainer is currently jailed for conspiracy to murder and to pervert the course of justice and attempting to pervert the course of justice. and  illegal possession of a firearm


In 2007 he formed the label Portmore Empire , and he also launched his own liquor line Street Vybz Rum, with then business partner Cory Todd, with whom he ended his professional relationship this May on a bitter note


As an author  Kartel released a  book "Voice of the Ghetto", which focused on the in depth life of living in the ghetto through Kartel's eyes.

In September he launched a reality dating show  on CVM  entitled "Teacha's Pet".

Vybz Kartel will definitely in 2012 continue to make news.
