Dwight Arrington Myers (Heavy D) was born on May 24, 1967 to Eulahlee Lee, a nurse, and Clifford Vincent Myers, a machine technician, in Jamaica. At a young age the family moved to Mount Vernon, New York.
Heavy D discovered rap music at age eight and by junior high was making his own demo tapes. He
.was an actor, rapper, record producer, singer and former leader of Heavy D & the Boyz, which he formed with high-school friends DJ Eddie F (Eddie Ferrell), Trouble T-Roy (Troy Dixon), and G-Wiz (Glen Parrish).
In 1986, the group was signed to Uptown label, and In 1987 , Heavy D & the Boyz released their first album "Living Large," which became a success. The singles "Mr. Big Stuff" and "The Overweight Lover's in the House" from the album established Heavy D's image among rap fans, and "Don't You Know" was a crossover hit on the R&B charts, narrowly missing the Top Ten.
The second album "Big Tyme" which came out in 1989 was the group's real breakthrough. In 1990 a member of the group Trouble T. Roy died at age 22 , where an tribute album Peaceful Journey, was release which went platinum. Pete Rock & CL Smooth created a tribute to Trouble T. Roy called "They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)" which is regarded as a hip-hop classic.
Heavy D & the Boyz continued to gained fame and they were asked to sign the theme song for In Living Color and also MADtv.
In 1993, Heavy D decided to try acting, when he landed his biggest role yet as a recurring supporting character on the Fox sitcom Roc and also another Fox sitcom, Living Single, starring Queen Latifah.
Heavy D & the Boyz in 1994 return to music with a another platinum hit album Nuttin' But Love
where we heard hits like "Black Coffee," the R&B Top Five "Got Me Waiting," which became became their second album to top the R&B charts.
In 1996 Heavy D, became the president of Uptown Records and made his off-Broadway play Riff Raff at Circle Repertory Company,written and directed by Laurence Fishburne.
Heavy D went solo and releasing Waterbed Hev in 1997, it made the Top Ten on both the pop and R&B charts and produced a Top Five R&B hit in "Big Daddy." He also collaborated with B.B. King on his duets album Deuces Wild rapping in the song "Keep It Coming."
His seventh album, 1999's Heavy, became his seventh straight to reach the R&B Top Ten.
Heavy D appeared in the 1999 Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence comedy Life and landed a prominent supporting role in the Oscar-nominated drama The Cider House Rules. He also join the cast of Fox high-school drama Boston Public as a Counselor, in 2000.
In 2005, the Will Smith movie Hitch played the song "Now That We Found Love"
Heavy D final performance was at the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards in October 2011. It was his first live performance in 15 years, when he performed a medley of his best-known singles, among them "Nuttin' But Love," "Is It Good to You" and "Now That We Found Love."
