Phat Groove and Trapstarz Entertainment are all set to host Summer Fest on Friday, August, 7th - Saturday, August 8th. This double feature presentation will kick off with the Summer Fever Concert on Friday, August 7th, at 8pm at the Wyndham Nassau Resort Rain Forest Theatre. Then, after patrons would have partied the night away to some of the most well liked soca entertainers, they can return for the Summer Laughs Comedy Show on Saturday, August 8th.
Phat Groove has lined up a fantastic cadre of performers to ensure that a good time is had by all. Summer Fever will feature Bahamian favorites including Bahamian diva Spice, Soca Queen Alison Hinds, Shurwayne Winchester, Iwer George, T C, and The Bahamas’ own Visage Band.
Alison Hinds is one of the most popular soca singers in the world and has officially been given the nickname the “Queen of Soca”. She has produced many popular songs that top charts. Alison is widely known throughout the Caribbean and The Bahamas for her powerful voice and sexy dance moves.
Trinidad and Tobago’s Soca Mega-Star Shurwayne Winchester is phenomenal on and off stage. His dynamic and energetic, stage performance makes him a favorite among audiences.
Iwer George reigns in the dancehalls of Trinidad and Tobago. In fact he is known to be the yardstick against which dancehall soca is measured after being be able to heat things up on the Soca Music scene for the last 16 years. TC (Terencia ), a veteran soca performer says she plans to “ bring the riddim” next week at Summer Fest.
Visage, the most well-known band in The Bahamas also plans to “bring it” at this years Summer Fest. In recent years, the wider soca industry has become well-acquainted with this multi-talented band, having worked with top Soca performers like Destra, Machel Montano, Alison and Ronnie McIntosh to name a few.
Visage has taken the Junkanoo riddim of The Bahamas and fused it with Soca to create a new sound from the region, called “Socanoo”. All of these soca giants will undoubtedly transform the Wyndham into a lively fete not to be missed.After the concert, Summer Fest will continue the following day as they invite audiences to laugh along with an all-star lineup of comedians. The Summer Laughs Comedy Show will feature comedians including: Shorty, Jay and Al Johnson. They all promise to win over the crowd with their impeccable timing and clever jokes.
Born in Raritan, NJ and raised in Paterson, NJ comedian Shorty has been blazing the comedy scene for more than 10 years. Most recently, Shorty has filmed a television pilot for BET called “Busted”, performed at the 2008 Los Angeles Comedy Festival, filmed an appearance for BET’S Notarized and graced the stages of Talent’s (It’s Just Comedy Tour) and Hot 97’s DJ Cipha Sounds Comedy show at Comix in Manhattan, NY.
A J Johnson is an American actor and comedian. He got his start in acting when he starred in House Party in 1990 as E Z E. He then went on to appear in other urban films. He also appeared in the classic 1995 Los Angeles-based comedy film Friday as Ezal, a crackhead.
The comedy show will be hosted by the African King of Comedy Michael Black, a popular and talented performer of urban comedy. A fully stocked bar featuring wines and spirits from Bacardi will be available, which will no doubt help to make the show even funnier!The Summer Fest events are proudly being sponsored by Bacardi, ARC Media, Top Class Security, Bahamas Gold Trading and Cell City.Phat Groove has organized over 30 successful comedy shows within the past few years.
