Travel Special Featuring Jamaica Premieres in New York City

Destination Jamaica took centre stage in New York City on Monday (March 2), as the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), along with Al Roker Productions and WE tv, hosted the launch of the travel special 'First Ladies Tour' at the Helen Mills Theatre.

More than 150 persons were on hand to view the one-hour special, which featured wife of Prime Minister, Bruce Golding, Lorna Golding, taking noted American journalist, Deborah Roberts, on a VIP tour of the island.

Those on hand included Tourism Minister, Edmund Bartlett; WE tv President and General Manager, Kim Martin; Chief Executive of Al Roker Entertainment and NBC weatherman, Al Roker; Executive Producer/Director and noted travel expert Peter Greenberg; Director of Tourism, John Lynch; Director General in the Tourism Ministry, Carrole Guntley; Mrs. Golding; Mrs. Roberts; members of the media; and local and international tourism officials and partners.

The feature, produced for WE tv by Al Roker Productions, showcases the island's rich diversity, by drawing attention to the unique experiences and cultural elements of Jamaica beyond sun, sand and sea.

Mrs. Golding gives Mrs. Roberts a peek inside her homeland as they take a helicopter ride along the breathtaking Montego Bay in St. James coastline and step inside some of Jamaica's most lavish homes and private resorts, including Round Hill in Hanover, home to world famous designer Ralph Lauren; and Goldeneye, St. Mary, the former home of James Bond creator, Ian Fleming.

From Caribbean Fashion Week in Kingston, featuring haute couture and street-style alike, the ladies team up with the adventure thrill seekers at Chukka Caribbean in Ocho Rios; glide 200 feet above the Montpelier forest in Montego Bay; and kayak through the grotto-lined cliffs of Negril, Westmoreland.

To complete this island excursion, Mrs. Golding takes Mrs. Roberts to one of her favourite, and most serene places on the island - the Hope Gardens in Kingston. This 200-acre botanical garden is the largest in the Caribbean and is one of the best places to enjoy the flora of Jamaica.

"We are honoured to showcase Jamaica through the eyes of Mrs. Golding, whose intimate knowledge of the island illustrates that Jamaica is so much more than sun, sand and sea," Minister Bartlett, told the viewing audience.

Mr. Bartlett said he was "especially excited" to have the premiere in New York City, and to have in attendance, Mrs. Golding and Mrs. Roberts, who is an ABC news correspondent and Mr. Roker's wife.

The 'First Ladies Tour', featuring Jamaica, began airing on WE tv on March 3.
