CHICAGO - Ten outstanding Jamaicans residing in Chicago, Illinois, in the United States, who have made significant contributions in various fields, will be honoured by the Jamaican Consulate in the city, at its annual Gala Awards Banquet, on Saturday, February 21.
The recipients are drawn from various fields, including philanthropy, law, medicine, entertainment, community leadership, and service.
They will be presented with their awards by Jamaica's Ambassador to the United States, Anthony Johnson, who will also deliver the keynote address at the banquet, which will be held at the Chateau Delmar Country Club, in Hickory Hills.
In an interview with JIS News, Jamaica's Honorary Consul in Chicago, Lord Hyde, said this year's awards banquet is very special, as Ambassador Johnson would be making an official two-day visit to Chicago from February 20 to 21.
"He will have an opportunity to address the Jamaican community, meet with the Chicago Chamber of Commerce, where he will have discussions regarding investment opportunities, as well as have discussions with Mayor of Chicago, Richard Daly," he said.
The Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) and Air Jamaica are co-sponsors of the awards gala, which will include a reception, an auction, and performance by the West Indies Dance Company.
