EME Awards tonight at the Pegasus

It has been called the red carpet gala event of the entertainment calendar and the Excellence in Music and Entertainment awards unfolds tonight in the Gardens of the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. The nominees and a host of entertainment luminaries are all expected to be in attendance at this stellar, by-invitation-only event.

The EME Awards is one of the most highly-anticipated events in entertainment and a nomination in any category is seen as validation that the artiste's career is on the rise. There are over 30 categories, among them Song of the Year; Album of the Year; Vocalist of the Year (male and female); Deejay of the Year (male and female); Breakthrough Artiste of the Year and a host of others.

Special role model awards will be handed to Sonia Pottinger, King Jammy's and Freddie McGregor, while recognition as 'international friends of reggae' will be given to Estelle, Missy Elliott, Jazmin Sullivan and John Legend.
Performers for tonight's show are Freddie McGregor, Tarrus Riley, Etana, Albarosie, LUST, Spice, Vybz Kartel, Elephant Man, Flippa Mafia, D'Angel, Konshens, Noddy Virtue, Jodi-Ann Pantry, Goddy Goddy, Romain Virgo, Bar-Bee and Danglin, all backed by the In2nation band.
Conceptualiser of the awards, Richard 'Richie B' Burgess stated that he was immensely pleased at the interest that has been generated by the EMEs and pledged his commitment to ensuring a high standard in the music business.

This year, the public, for the first time was allowed to influence winners with votes via the Internet, through the newly constructed website www.emeawards.com. This, in addition to the points gained based on performance of the nominees in the weekly Jamaica Music Countdown. Voting ended on Saturday.

Since its inception five years ago, the EMEs has grown into one of the premier events on the Jamaican entertainment calendar.
