Pulse supermodel Jaunel McKenzie has done it again! The Caribbean's most successful fashion star and 13-time Vogue model, hit fashion's high notes over the holiday period, when she appeared in an eight page editorial haute couture spread with R&B superstar John Legend for Essence magazine.
December's issue of Essence, celebrates the major change makers for 2008 and both legends, John and Jaunel, were a perfect fit. The special publication which also features the most powerful man in the world - Barack Obama, has mega movie star Will Smith and his wife Jada on the cover while it also celebrates Jamaica's extraordinary success at the 2008 Summer Olympics.
Perfect harmony
In this her first Essence appearance, McKenzie teams up with the legendary Grammy-winning music man and was in perfect harmony for the ultra luxe fashion story. With a host of premium labels from Giorgio Armani to Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors to Moschino and Prada to DKNY, the power couple suits up in style for a 'Flashing Lights' fashion tale.
John steps from behind the piano with his fashion muse, Jaunel, in tow for one night out in the city. Inspired by and laced to the undertones of Legend's current airwave hit, Green Light, the au courant spread titled 'Flashing Lights' explores the rising raves in 'city chic' including metallics, sequins and satins. Shot by Toronto's finest lens expert and photography author David Drebin and styled by Essence's famed man of fashion, Laurence McCollum III, the sultry model and the husky crooner engage in a night rendezvous with high fashion.
While Jaunel's sparkly sequin separates and John's crisp dinner jackets set the stage for fashion extraordinaire in the stylish spread, the Pulse model rocks it solo in the beauty section of the Black Lifestyle mag. Always en vogue, Jaunel illustrates one of the 10 beverzeauty tips of the month. Snapped strutting the runway at the Tuleh Fall show in NY, the Jamaican model shows off her freshly cut bangs.
Traditional bangs
The editor commends Jaunel's jazzy take on traditional bangs as a must do hair trend to rock the season, "Bangs are always au courant. Freshen them up with tousled hair like Jaunel McKenzie" quips the mag.
Since her introduction to the global fashion arena via Pulse's Caribbean Model Search, McKenzie has been snapped up by fashion and beauty power players including Vogue editor, Anna Wintour. She is one of the world's most in-demand fashion models and was inducted into fashion immortality by being named by Ebony Magazine in 2008 as one of the most successful black models of all time along with Chanel Iman and Tyra Banks.
