Sean Paul & Estelle Rock New York

Sean Paul, the most commercially successful representative of dancehall music today, brought his brand of pop dancehall into the swanky Club Element in lower Manhattan this past weekend. Dubbed "Sean Paul & Friends LIVE," the event was part of New York City's trendsetting promotion team - Upscale Crowd Entertainment and Caribbean Fuse's celebration of the Martin Luther King holiday weekend, on Sunday, January 18, 2009.
Fans who braved the snowy New York temps to pack Element were in for a treat when SP, as he's commonly called, took the stage, welcoming everyone in the club. "Happy New Year to all my people them," he said, greeting the crowd with a smile. "You see all my people them who love reggae and dancehall music - Caribbean people, Jamaican people, Trinidadian people, Guyanese people." The audience went wild as he called out their homelands, then performed many of his hits, including, "Give It Up To Me," "We Be Burning," "Gimme The Light," "Get Busy," "Watch Dem Roll," and "Temperature."
But the momentum shifted into high gear when SP suddenly stopped his set and turned to plant a kiss on a female standing on the side of the stage. Then the Supa Dups-produced melody for current Billboard hit "Come Over" belted over the speakers, and SP introduced British export, Estelle. "Hey Estelle, I gotta say your voice is as beautiful as you are," he chimed, pulling her towards the center of the stage. "Come give the people them what they want." The impromptu duet made for a memorable show, as ticket holders enjoyed two superstars for the price of one. An eclectic mix of music added fuel to the night, lead by HOT97 radio personality and deejay, Mr. Cee.
Upscale Crowd Entertainment and Caribbean Fuse continue to pave the way in nightlife promotion by hosting top-notch events in New York City, for five years now. Celebrities frequent their weekly parties, and they are known for putting on classy events with the hottest acts today. They are also setting a precedent as promoters by sacrificing patron space for media crews, bringing more than an audience to an artist performance, but also mainstream and core media coverage of the artist at their events. Crews from numerous mainstream media outlets, including FADER, XXL Magazine, the Associated Press, and key Caribbean media were granted all-access to the Sean Paul show.
"Having Sean Paul to start off our 2009 celebrity artists series complements our goal of bringing quality Caribbean events to Manhattan, the heart of New York City," states Jermaine Magras, Marketing Director of Upscale Crowd Entertainment.
